There's a mountain across the river, surrounded by the green, green trees and the golden sun, and the oh-so-fluffy clouds. And here you are, sitting on the other side, watching it. Watching.

It's noon.

...you were there, once, you think. It was the breaking of dawn, and there was light everywhere - around you, and through you. Inside you. ( Read more... )

[ He doesn't pretend the empathize, but he's not exactly surprised, either. ]

Isn't there sort of, I don't know, a place in between?

Mm. Yes... and no. I am the place between. The Half-Awakened.

I have been ever since my first fight with Riful. But it's not the same, or even close to it.

Perhaps you need to use it more.

[ He still isn't sure how this works. ]

Your yoki. You know, sort of... stretch it out more.

As though you have injuries and cannot fight at full strength without exacerbating them. You have to find your limits.

..... If that's how it works at all.

[She laughs a little, and rubs her face.]

Erm. Do you want to know how it works?

Of course.

I probably do need to find my limits. Although... to be honest, it's not too difficult to tell when someone's gone too far.

The bigger problems, I guess, are the lifetime limitations and... well the other thing. The limitations are-- well! The more I use it, the more quickly I'll Awaken. That's why we have-- oh. This.

[She .... disappears offscreen, and then reappears, ALMOST MAGICALLY, with her blade lying across her lap. Quickly, she unscrews the hilt and draws out a black card.]

Everyone reaches their limit eventually. Even if we use our yoki conservatively... I guess every use fuels the yoma inside us. One day it comes out. And when we feel it clawing to the surface, we send this to the person we most want to kill us. And then they do.

If I stretch too much, it just brings the inevitable closer. And I don't really need more power anyway.

[She takes a little breath.]

The other problem is just that... the farther you go... the less you want to come back.

[ Priscilla's fast movement still has the power to make him blink, though he listens to her explanation in silence. ]

So inevitable that your Organization has a system in place for it. I see.

Though I remember you as being fairly adverse to being killed.

[ Deadpan humour. More importantly, he can see the parallel between this and what he fears from Merlin's magic. So he makes her the same suggestion. ]

Have you considered doing the opposite and simply ... not using it at all?

[ Is that even a possibility, for someone like her? ]

Most of us can't. I mean... I can. And Teresa never really used hers either, but...

Most warriors would be killed... pretty quickly if they tried.
