You see them for the space of a breath, and no longer, as the forge, and whoever carries it, stumbles through the ruins. This is why you put them in a box. Otherwise, animals eat the pieces and the Mist takes it away... but if it's sealed up so the Mist can't get it, then it's safe until somebody opens it.
