[She remembers you; a little stern, but you didn't seem that bad of a person.]

Is magic a bad thing to you?

I know little about it. Only that it is to some.

Then the healers in the Clinic aren't bad, right?

You have a curious question, on the other hand. It's not a question of tradition or adaptation. It's a question of how long either will last.

I've never been there.

I've known traditions that stretch across many winters.

There are some good people there. They really do take on quite a load as it is.

[Truth be told, Hotaru's in awe of them.]

Mm. But seasons do come and go, nothing truly can last forever.

Some winters can feel like it.

Have you been there?

Do you not believe that things can change? When it changes, it is a period of time dying?

[She gives a quiet nod.]

I was there when I first came. I fainted for the whole day.

If the Wall falls, that would be change. But it wouldn't be for the better.

[His eyes widen slightly.]

I remember.

Does the wall protect something where you live?

[It almost sounds like she's shrugging; it's normal for Hotaru, so it doesn't concern her.]

It takes a lot to work in in places like that, no matter how you heal people.

The Wall protects everything.

Did they find out what made you faint?

Then what happens when your generation moves on? Does a new one come in and protect it?

[Hotaru faintly smiles.]

It's been like that since I was little.

Until we run out of men willing to do it.

[And their numbers are getting fewer.]

Starks have pledged their service for thousands of years.

[He's quiet for a moment.]

Even those who heal with magic. They could do nothing for you?

[Hotaru thinks that's a little depressing, but she thinks nothing of it.]

Then I think you've answered your own question, don't you see? It's not one of them, it's both of them. Tradition and adaptation. But time will go and things can still change, even in the simplest of methods.

[She looks a little sheepish saying that. Hotaru shakes her head.]

I'm afraid not, no. It's an illness I've had for quite some time. It's alright.

Both would be something that I could accept.

[So even magic can't help everything. Jon frowns a little at that.]

Things can still change.

[In her own words.]

Doesn't it make you sad, though? That wall?

[She's just curious. But to that, Hotaru gives a sheepish smile and a little nod.]

Mhm, someday, I'll be strong enough to walk around like normal.
