[It's a sound of concern. This is a young one, isn't she?]

Hey, what's this? No need to cry. Are you new?

[Another voice. And from the same direction. That thing she'd set down? Is it flickering across the top? She can't be sure.]

I'm sorry, but that's---

---that's not true! I-I shouldn't. I know. It isn't seemly of me, but there's nothing left to do but cry.

I don't understand. New?

[The woman who'd directed here had implied as much. How could this disembodied voice know?]

New, like you're... not from here. This is your first time here?

Anyway, 'seemly' doesn't matter right now. But it's not helping you to cry, is it? I mean, it might feel better... but--

[Wait, that's not the best approach. Asellus-nee mode, activate!]

Why don't you tell me why you're crying, and we can sort things out a little.

Is this not the Vale?

[Not even sure if she wants that confirmed, but better she know where she is, right? Right.]

Is ...is this even Westeros?

[How can you say that it doesn't matter? That must be easy for a disembodied voice, or s sorcerous ...metal tapestry? FORGE. WHAT ARE YOU. But she's closer now, and her eyes widen a little. Less frightened (just a bit) - more curious.]

I...

[But it could be a ploy, couldn't it? And those are dangerous, lengthy answers. But it's not sense that drives her right now, so:]

I miss my family. This place is strange and unfamiliar, and I...

...I want to go...

[Home?]

[...Oh, sweetie. Maybe it's her princess-in-distress complex, or just that this girl looks so young. What's up with this place and the young ones?]

I'm... afraid that might not be possible. None of us have been able to go home when we wanted to. The door won't open for any of us.

But this place gets less strange, less unfamiliar. You just have to... give it a little time.

You've got a place to stay, right?

It only lets people in and never out?

[Quieting again, because she has time. And apparently too much of it according to the grouchy man that suggested she solve the riddle of this ...device. No lemon cakes for you, Rigaldo, just a raincloud.

Looking around at the room.]

This room must be mine. My shoe was here already. I don't know how, when it had fallen from so hi---

[Head. Shake. That thought can please go away just now.]

---does that mean that this is my...

[Cell? Escape? Both?]

[She just nods.] Well, then, you've got somewhere that's your own. That helps-- a place of your own for a while. A place you can go if things get a little too much.

Has anyone told you about this place yet? I mean, aside from 'you might not be able to go home from here', anyway.

[She straightens a little, focusing on what little she does know. It is almost as if she's reciting her lessons.]

...magic brought me here. To Anatole, which is not in Westeros. Magic is also responsible for this ...device. Most of the people have been kind. I thought I was mad, or that they...

...that you were gods or spirits, but that's not true.

[A tiny smile. She feels a bit silly for thinking that now.]

I can stay here?

We're about as godlike or spiritlike as anyone else, here. We're all... well, not the same. But similar enough. We're all bound together by this place. We should all be kind to one another, I think.

Stay there? You can, if you want, or you can save some money up and find a nicer one. [The smile's encouraging, and so's Asellus' tone.] You'll definitely want to find something to do-- it helps with getting used to this place. And it's always nice to make a little money. Is there anything you like to do? Skills? Hobbies?

People should always be kind to one another, when they can.

[Sometimes they just aren't, and she's mistrustful. It was a hard lesson to learn. Kindness. Mercy. It had meant her Lord father's head.]

O-oh. Something to do? I...

[Even as Alayne Stone she hadn't been expected to earn her keep. The idea is almost ridiculous. But really it's just overwhelming. Shockface forever, Asellus.]

...I have only ever been...

...I will have to earn my keep like a commoner?

They should. Maybe sometimes they don't, but they should. [She believes it, too-- that people in need should be helped, that people should be kind to strangers until given reason not to be. The look on her face suggests that this girl hasn't missed that particular lesson, though the way it shifts tells Asellus that she might not have learned a few other lessons, as well.]

I'm afraid so. The people here aren't too fond of us, as a whole. It's hard to eat without money. But there's all sorts of things you can do-- even things you probably did back home for fun, honestly.

Of us? But why?

[...]

Does no one rule here? I could be of some use at court?

[But there's a fair bit of terror in her eyes as she says this. Her experiences at court have been less than ...well, they have been pure horror. But those were Sansa Stark's fears. She is Alayne Stone now, isn't she?]

I'm not sure there's ever been a 'court' here. There certainly isn't one now.

Are courtly things all you know, then? A courtier? [Not like the titled ones, the concubines, but someone who knows the ins and outs of social niceties? It would be nice if there were a job she could do regarding that, but...]

No court. Then who---

[HOW DOES THIS WORK.]

---is it all just chaos?

[Her experiences with the common people have been not what she'd predicted - but again, those were Sansa's memories. Alayne could be different. There was no horrible boy-King to color her reputation here.]

Yes, my lady. [And that doesn't seem like enough.] I could be a lady in waiting to one of the families here, or I could...

[Oh, man. She just doesn't know. At all.]
