I can't remember the last time I felt this exhausted.
No, wait. I can. It's been a long time, though. Feels like years. Of course, back when I was still a recruit in SOLDIER I think it was worse. The end to the fatigue wasn't anywhere in sight. And back then I really didn't know what I was fighting for, what I was holding on for.
That's all changed. Now I know.
With these two hands of mine, and with my sword, with all my heart, all my pride, I will protect . . . my dreams, and the people that fill those dreams. And I will protect the people that dream their own dreams, too.
That's my purpose. To become a hero that they can be proud of. To do things in such a way that I will never look back with any regrets.
It'll take time to heal, but I think when I'm put back together this time I'll be stronger than I ever was before.
On that note, Anatole, I got some questions for you.
What do you fight for? Why do you fight? And if you fight for someone, who are they?
Lastly . . . when was the last time you felt weightless? When was the last time that you felt happy? The last time you reached for the stars, the moon, the sun, the entire sky? Just to feel your fingertips splayed in the open air, to feel the wind rush between them and the light of day shine down on you, or the pale comfort of the moon?
I think it's important to do this every once in a while. It's humbling. No matter what sky we're under, it reminds us that we're all under it together. No matter where we are we're not alone in this place.

the Police and the man in charge of my sentence, you
