You have lived in the village your whole life. There were never very many people in it, but your family has been here for nearly as long as the town itself. It's not very large at all, either, but it's been relatively safe, at least until the recent whispers of creeping monsters drawing closer each night.

Who's that lady, Resa-chan?

[Nevermind the carnage. That's a normal thing for little girls to see, isn't it?]

I didn't always.

[And here is some intense self-debate on whether or not she should explain this.]

Yachiru. Do you remember when Priscilla's hair changed?

Yes. I do.

Did you change, too? Like that?

That's our nature, little one.

It didn't happen as often as it could have, if we didn't--

[Kill each other first? She's like, eight. Not exactly a child that needs to be shielded like normal, but still, Teresa can't quite bring herself to tell her everything right now.]

...take certain measures to prevent it. But those things would take us out of the fight if we did them, and we're no use if we can't fight.

It is the monster within all of us, though. The part of us that gives us our power, but if we can't control it, it will consume us.

Okay, I think I get it. But why isn't there a better way to control it? Then you wouldn't have to worry about the monster eating you up.
