12th Task || Sebastian Michaelis [Video]

[The feed broadcasts in the wee hours of the morning, when all who are sane or not insomniacs are asleep. It's not quite apparent whether Sebastian intended to use the video feature, but here he is: the Forge is in one hand, and in the other is a candelabra with three burning candles that cast long shadows on his face. Beyond him are the walls of a strange house, not the walls of the Patrol outpost where he can usually be found. He walks through the halls with a fluid, gliding motion. He does not address the camera as he speaks, slowly and evenly.]

I have searched. There is no sign of my master, nor his mother. I am alone here.

[The candles flicker, and the hair in his face covers his mouth in shadow, rendering his expression indeterminable. He does not sound sad, nor particularly joyful. Just deeply contemplative.

He pauses, opens a door, and stands amid an office. Due to the dim lighting, there is nothing more than the silhouette of a desk visible, although he gazes at it, his eyes picking up more than the camera can convey.]

It is unfortunate; I've been left such a large house, but there is no one to live in it. And there are half-completed plans for a business I've no intention of running on my own. I suppose the enterprise shall have to be put on hold.

[He approaches the desk, sets down the candelabra, casting wan light on various blueprints and official-looking reports. Sebastian puts the Forge down as well and begins tidying up the space in smooth, deft movements.]

I confess I find it interesting. Many ruminate about what they have lost here. Instead... I think of what I have found.

...

It's strange, to dwell on what cannot be changed. It is much easier just to live, don't you think?

[He looks up from the neat piles of paper and out the nearby window, tilting his head slightly at the moon shining against the velvety black sky.]

I will have to decide what must be done about the empty spaces.
