Not even a week after the city gets nearly leveled and someone's already planning some kind of party. I don't know whether that's admirable or if we're just that jaded by now.
[He chuckles.] Not that I'm one to talk I guess. A massive assault by an army of monsters that used to be human and infect other humans to make more monsters? Don't know about

...anyway, yeah. The afterparty is kind of a thing, too. Comforting, in a way. And also ...not.

[A scoff.] I'm not an afterparty kind of guy. Or any kind of party. Socializing just isn't my thing.

And what's this I heard about you getting turned into one of those monsters? Am I gonna have to stop holding back during practice? [Cuz a few broken bones should teach you to close those gaps in your defenses damn quick, Dawn.]

You're holding back?! How am I ever gonna get any better if you do that! And yeah, I was a catgirl. With a form.
Did you see it? Please tell me you didn't see it.

You'll get stronger much more easily if you start slow and work your way up. If I throw everything I have at you right away and you're not able to handle it, I could do a lot of damage. And if you get hurt it'll slow down your training since you'll need to wait to recover.
No, I didn't see it. I heard about it. Sounds to me like you need to work more on your defense.

...it was healed by the morning. That ...didn't used to happen back home. And it's pretty hard to get all defense-y when there's like a hundred cat rod ...things in the air.
It's not The Matrix, you know?

I heal fast too, Dawn. That doesn't make injuries any less of a setback. I wouldn't let you keep training with an injury anyways, so you'd still lose out on at least a day of practice.
Yeah, the rods were a huge problem. But I still got through without getting hit by them. So did a lot of people. It's not impossible, it'll just take some hard work. Besides, I wasn't just thinking of teaching you how to dodge. Learning shieldplay isn't too complicated - and I could start using more power once I know you can block.

When can we start?

[He chuckles.] As soon as we get you a shield, kid. And no complaining about my teaching methods. I know what I'm doing.

Wait. You don't have to eat or sleep otherwise? Is it optional?

I do, just not as much as a normal human. Unless I'm injured of course. I am still alive after all.

...or is that once a month? And they're totally alive!
