3rd Gear [Video: Broadcast Dream]
[The Forge activates on its own, propped up on a nightstand alongside a bed where Rex is sleeping. He's on his stomach, one arm beneath the pillow while his other dangles off the side of the bed. A quiet sleeper, Rex remains that way for several seconds before his eyebrows twitch and he mutters something that sounds like "nanites are flowing" and rolls over.]
[The feed fades out into darkness...]
"...can't we skip the gas, Doc?" Rex's voice. There's the sound of equipment being shuffled about. Likely to administer the aforementioned gas.
A woman's voice answers, tinged with genuine concern. "I wish we could, but it's the only way we can assure you won't accidentally activate any of the nanites during the transfer."
"I know, but..." A brief pause. When Rex speaks again, his voice is slightly muffled. Though it cannot be seen, it's obvious that a mask has been placed over his face. "That stuff always gives me weird dreams."
There's a low hiss as a valve releases the gas down the tubing.
"Just try to relax. This will all be over before you know it..."
The doctor's voice fades out at the end, becoming distant as the gas takes effect.
Rex's breathing deepens before the sound of that fades away as well.
[The darkness lifts to reveal Rex's room again. He rolls back over, eyes opening a little to gaze blearily at the Forge. It takes him a few seconds to realize it's recording before he reaches out to grab it and shut it off.]
