What is new is the fact that she's laughing, and she turns back to the Forge, that laugh still in her eyes, and drags it to see what she's seeing

I guess that's right. I don't know if I'd like to be a legend, though.

I don't know-- legends are more than people, to the people that believe in them. I don't know if I'd like my life to be embellished the way theirs are.

[shirley thinks it interesting enough, but she was use to being so admired before she even died. worship, though, that is something kind of awkward, if flattering, that she isn't sure she wants. (drake.)]

Heroes of legend are a gathering of actions with a name. Who one had truly been doesn't matter to believers.

And that's the problem. I don't want to be just a basis for actions. I want to be remembered for who I am, not what I did or didn't do.

...I guess that makes me a little selfish. I don't mind doing things. But I don't want those things to be the only things I am remembered for.

One could argue that our actions are part of our being.

But only part.

You don't hear about how much a hero liked... I don't know, watermelon, or trashy romance novels, do you? All the stories focus on is what they do, not what they want or like or are.

You are already like a legend to those that don't know you. A person in the market will not remember you as someone that likes watermelon but bought it; the memory of legends only last longer.
