Those of you that were interested in helping with the First Response thing that Hope had started and I kind of picked up... [Lavi groans tiredly and there's the rustle of fabric.]

I'll take another cruise around the city just to make sure.

Just an idea really of making some kind of group that would go out when there was an attack or disaster and help those that were hurt, Scorched or otherwise. But most of the folks that have the skills have more important jobs or preferred not to get involved.

Yeah, it's not paid so it's purely volunteer based. [But at the same time he doesn't want to keep fighters from the field.] I can put you on the list as one of those that can do small things in the fields but mainly a fighter.

To tell the truth the idea of being paid for it at all is still a little strange to me. [ Sheepish grin in tone. ] That sounds good.

[ Allen pauses for a second, but then continues in that tone that generally has a small kind of smile. ] I admit I'm a little surprised, but I'm glad to hear you're doing this sort of thing.

Kinda why I just live in the outpost and haven't used any of the money aside from feeding myself.

No, but it's different than getting no pay at all other than job satisfaction. [And Lavi's hadn't been much better playing a wanderer for so much of his life. Even moving into the Order had been a big wolf-ordeal for him, being stuck with a group for so long though he could sate his wanderlust.

A sigh.] I didn't do much work, so I don't think I should get any credit.

Especially when he's asking that even when he hates asking or bringing it up, even if he knows Lavi might know more than most, maybe hates it more because of that, but...

[All that Lavi might know he would still only give his friend an eighth of it. Most of what he knows about the Noah he can't tell, because of what his orders are, so ingrained in his head from the Clan that he can't force himself to go against things. Not even for the first of his friends.]

That's harsh, Lavi, but he can't say maybe he didn't deserve it. It's... not lying to himself, right? And it's not so much lying to others or anyone as...

... He doesn't want to worry others more than need be. And right now, after the Fourteenth? He'd be an idiot not to realize how much worry there is-that Link is living with and watching him again like that-a golden-eyed not-him-could be him any day. Whatever he'd promised to the Crow, that Link would be the one to stop him. But that's why... That's because...

... Hell, how is he supposed to react to this. It's not like... it's not like an intentional dupe. That he's smiling to deceive or anything like that. At least he doesn't mean that? He just...

He just wants to deal with this and not make people worry. Just make things better-somehow. Not make...

A little chastened, a little melancholy, he has to slip the Forge back into his pocket and continue on.
