[The Forge turns on and a video feed flickers to life. A little girl with pink hair and rosy cheeks - Yachiru, as she has not been seen for ten days or five hundred years depending on your perspective- is fiddling with the settings as she talks. She’s rubbing her eyes a bit and her hair is ruffled as if from sleep.]
And it was really weird, Ken-chan! Do you wanna hear about it?
Eh? Sure, why not? [His voice has just a touch of grogginess , like he just woke up from a nap. ]
She presses a few buttons and stares at the screen as if she isn’t quite sure how the device works. Her expression betrays slight confusion. She should know this.]
Okay! So I dreamed I was the captain of squad eleven! Isn’t that cool, Ken-chan? But see, I was only captain cuz you were headcaptain. And it was the greatest thing because you’d be the best headcaptain ever because there were days where we just fought all day long for fun! And I was all grown up and I beat up Byakushi all the time! It felt like a reeeeaaaally long dream, but it was good! Well, it was mostly good…
[He laughs.]
Sounds like a great dream to me!
[A pause.]
Huh. Think I had the same one. Weird.
Really? We had the same dream, Ken-chan! That’s so neat!
Yeah. I liked that one.
[He comes up behind Yachiru and looks down at her still playing with the Forge. And grins.]
When we make it back home, let’s make it a reality.
[She giggles.] Okay, Ken-chan!
[Fiddling with the Forge for a minute more, she finally seems satisfied and beams down at the screen with the pride of a child who finally succeeded. And now she’s actually talking into the Forge. She waves giddily and doesn’t even bother to smooth her hair out.]
Hi hi! I feel like I haven’t talked to anybody in a long time! I hope me and Ken-chan didn’t miss anything fun because we overslept!
