Renly Baratheon | Game of Thrones therainbowking November 1 2011, 22:45:26 UTC
[The video flicks on to show a handsome young man, staring baffled at the device in his hands. He shakes his head after a moment or two, frowning, and speaks.]

This is all very strange. I'm meant to communicate with this little box, then? Very well.

I cannot assume that this is some badly conceived kidnapping attempt, considering what's just happened at home, so apparently it's some very odd form of afterlife. I doubt whoever is here may know them, but -- it would be appreciated to have news of Westeros. Or, perhaps, word of Stannis Baratheon or Loras Tyrell, if anyone knows of them.

[He pauses, then gives a self-deprecating grin.] I'd nearly forgotten. Hello, whoever may be listening. I am Renly Baratheon, lord of the Seven Kingdoms.

Ah, another king to add to the growing pile. Anatole is like to get overrun by crowns in short order.

And kingslayers too, I see. [A beat.] The last I had heard, you weren't dead, so I assume this is hardly an afterlife.

Yes, it's true. I do seem to have a rather nasty habit of surviving despite the odds, don't I? You, on the other hand, can't get on a suit of armor without bleeding all over your guardians.

Odd how that works out, doesn't it?

But no, this is no afterlife. At least to hear Ned Stark tell it.

[The audio comes on first, to the light crunch and scrape of debris being brushed aside, and somewhere closer to the Forge, a muttered curse in some Latinate foreign language.]

Yet here I am, this world's magic in hand.

[The low, grim voice is slightly distant, as if he hasn't figured out how to properly talk into the Forge yet, and full of contempt. It's also new.]

Hmmm.

[A rough tapping on the screen, and now it's video, showing only brown fingers marked with almost lurid white lines and covered in what might be claws or might simply be a gauntlet skimming over the camera. Finally, after a few moments more of that, the view lurches to show a great hall full of ruined glory, toppled statues and torn tapestries, the shadows moving in alarming ways. The thin hints of Mist curling in the corners confirm it as at the edge of the ruins. He's new, at least to using the Forge, but he's already in the ruins.]

What's the nearest public fountain to the western ruins?

I'll have no need to bother you again.

You might not need to bother others, but you're like to be bothered whether you wish it or not.

[The camera swings unsteadily, and then the Forge is showing half a face--white hair and one pointed ear.]

I'm good at not being bothered.

That's what you think. Except it's not so easy now that you've got a Forge.

[The voice is that of a teenage boy, English, but not remotely posh. He doesn't sound the least bit scared, either. In fact, he sounds like he does this kind of thing all the time.]

Aright, giving me this mobile was nice and all. Definitely not standard hostile alien procedure, as far as I know. But I'd like my own back if you don't mind. Also, you could save me some trouble and tell me where you've taken me right now. Or save yourself some trouble and just pop me back to Bannerman Road.

[Well he's certainly taking all this well.]

A-aliens? [Maybe not the best way to start]

You weren't brought here by aliens. The Door brought you here and there isn't a way back as far as anyone knows. [There should definitely be more explanation here but she's too distracted by the alien thing.]

How often do you deal with aliens?

I bet these two would get along pretty well, actually heroicmoreoften November 2 2011, 02:54:19 UTC
A Door? A door to what? Like, an alternate dimension, another reality? Is there a transmat pad involved or something? In my experience, things like this happen and it's got to be aliens involved somehow. Just 'cause you haven't seen them doesn't mean they're not here.

How often?

[He stops and rubs his chin thoughtfully.]

I guess about once a week, give or take.

[And the sad part is, he isn't really exaggerating all that much.]

But it's cool. I've got this friend, Sarah-Jane. She'll figure out what happened to us and get us back home soon as she can.

They prolly would - he can work in the noodle shop with her! /helping princely_calyx November 2 2011, 03:14:26 UTC
It's just called "The Door." It's a big archway that brings people through whenever it wants. I don't know what a ...transmat pad is but I don't think the Door uses one.

Well, I guess that's true but things are a bit more on the ...magic side here. I think. [It's always one or the other in the movies.]

Um, it might be a bit more difficult than that. Maybe she can but it'd be a first. She must be really smart, to be able to bring people back from other worlds...

You're taking this all really well! Oh, I'm Utena.

[Sup, Anatole! Have an exasperated youngish man with a slightly crooked moustache glaring at you.]

I cannot still be in the Victorian era. I cannot. Would you like to know why?

[He shakes the Forge violently.]

They didn't have bloody handhelds in 1880-whatever. I don't care how many waistcoats or bowler hats you lot have. Or jumble sales. Or penwipers. It's just not possible. I know that much, even without listening to the damn tapes.

[Deep healing breath. Deep healing breath. At which point something unsettling seems to occur to him.]

Unless we have damaged the space-time continuum for the rest of who knows how long that's going to be.

...

[He clears his throat and tugs at his tight collar.]

Right then. Where am I? Who are you? And can anyone named Verity hear me?

[Oh good god. It can't be. After everything, all the horrors, all the darkness and all the amazing things she has seen, she never thought she'd see him here.

Or she tried never to think that. But no matter how she tried, she'd never lost hope or faith that he would come for her, no matter what. A belief she held onto even when reason told her it was impossible.

So have a video, Ned, and a familiar face, too. Sorry, Ned, even though she's smiling she can't keep her eyes from tearing up a little.]

Hello, Ned.

Verity!

[You'd think viewing her on an itty bitty screen would lessen her beauty. In fact, the grainy picture just enhances the red hues of her hair that frame her lovely and perfect face.

He's really starting to think this constant effect she has on him isn't time lag.

- Wait, why is she crying.]

Verity. Er, ehm. Have we... oh... hmm...

History hasn't collapsed in on itself or anything, has it?

[And on the screen is a man with long brown hair, darker skin than the rest of his unfortunate Westerosi countrymen and women. Though he finds this little thing interesting.]

This is surely much more efficient than a raven. But I've to wonder how I arrived in the first place without my knowledge. I don't quite recall stumbling upon such a place in Dorne.

And where would this be then? This bears no look of Westeros, though I confess I haven't been to nearly as many places as I would like.

It is called Anatole, and it's not---

[Yet another reason to wonder if she's dead. The dead keep showing up here. Yes, she's ...heard things, although she was not there to see the deed done.

Then again, people also lie. Arya'd heard she'd turned into a winged wolf and flown out a window.]

---it's not in Westeros at all. Nor anywhere near. You are Prince Oberyn, are you not?
