tldr, ezio is a manly foster dilf

[ and so, without shirley, annalee is left to wander on her own. she finds ezio by accident, asks him to "show her the coin magic", and of course, he complies. she is delighted by it, hovers around his ankles, and in doing so unofficially relieves him from duty. he is content to be so-- word has gotten 'round that he can "find" people, a little too much fame on the side of unnatural for his tastes. she asks if they can get food, and he tells her yes, takes her to the market which is in slow recovery. apples are expensive, but he's got more than enough ivories, and a knife to cut the bad parts out with.

(part of him wonders what it would have been like if the papal army had not followed him from rome.)

it's a long day, shoulder rides and questions, but it ends with the babby asleep, something he needs himself. so, he carries her back to the clinic, in hopes of finding a parent, or a guardian. shirley had said that he'd be tired eventually; he'd been preoccupied at the time, but it sounds like a good idea now.

hi, shirley, are you done sleeping yet...? ]

[god, no. but being someone with ridiculous abilities, the feeling of familiar presences wake her. it's slow, and her vision is a little blurry - and oh, she sighs when she can see properly because child, she told you to stay put when she left you. (not that she is surprised annalee wandered off.)

she wonders how long she has been asleep since roxas found her. tips her head to look at them and only moves enough to stretch her legs, suede boots peeking from under her cloak.]

Was she much trouble?

[manscruff]

[ he slows his steps and turns, annalee's cheek pillowed on his shoulder (the good one-- his left hasn't been quite the same since that january). it's apparently been long enough for ezio to manage to get himself a clean shirt, slipping into the inconspicuousness of native style ]

By the city standards, no. [ a pause. ] Her parents...?

Missing.

[okay, her father is dead and has been since before the war. details, though.]

[manscruff]

[ sliiiight tilt of the head. the babby murmurs something in her sleep. he could carry two small children if he had to... ]

Whose care would you have her in?

[thenobledie]

[jerk, she can only carry one - oh, but gracefully standing. she isn't actually wearing her cloak, but it's folded quickly in a way to be used more properly as a blanket. a wordless "mine," as she moves to take annalee from him.

...and she hasn't had time to change her gown.]

[ he begins to hand her over, though, ]

If you wish to rest, I can watch her for a little while longer.

[ a mentor's selflessness? and a fondness for those too young to have to face what she has seen these last few days. ]

I rested long enough.

[and using both arms to hold her while adjusting her cloak for blanket use.]

[ again, acquiescence. there is not much for him to say-- force is a templar form of persuasion. ]

[doesn't mean she doesn't sense his concern and tips her head to look at him. she does this so much, god.]

And why are you so worried?

[ Ah. Caught. ]

[this is where she'd, normally, lead into some nosy conversation and maybe circular inanity, but today is still not normal. annalee is heavy in her arms, and she should attend to patients; and ezio is tired. so she is turning, half her body away from him already. oh, check out those cat scratches on her back...which are really gashes.]

Rest well, hm?

[manscruff]

[ he isn't tired enough that he cannot follow; catnapping is a prestigious line of recovery, with a long and glorious tradition. he's good at it, and of course he notices her injury. ]

Perhaps later. You do intend to see your own injuries tended to, correct?

[still, she thinks he needs to rest! but shirley is just raising her eyebrows at him, not sure what he means. yeah, she...forgot the injury on her back. which is why it's still there.]

[ well, too bad! he is a stubborn butthead. have a vague gesture or something, look at what you're making me do, i am all sloppy and uncreative now GEEZ thanks ]
