New Job

So....

Today was my second "shift" of sorts at my new job. So far, everything seems good. The shifts are short, the tips are good, and there's really no rush to get people out of the door (like at Sbux). The lady I work for is pretty rad, she's way into buying local and taking care of her employees, and the fact that the place is family owned is appealing. Also, the drinks are about 3128974238753985 times better than Starbucks, and I'm learning a ton about coffee and espresso that I never learned in my two years in corporate coffee.

PLUS, the tips are good enough to make up for the fact that I make less in a paycheck, which is nice.

Bad thing about short shifts: you got to work more of 'em.

Anyway. So Peter and I have been doing some non-stop biking lately in search for a bigger place. I know, we just got here six months ago. But whatever. If we're staying in Phoenix an extra year, this place won't cut it. So we've found a ton of places we like, but they're just a BIT too much money. *Le sigh* I'm thinking of working a few spring training games selling beers to make a difference. I keep offering the idea of a roommate, but Peter can't be sold on it.

School is going like school goes. Nothing really new here.

Haven't gotten any letters from grad schools yet, but I'm not really expecting them until March/April, so I'm not worried yet. I AM worried that since public schools are getting state funding cut like CRAZY, that a lot of schools will be either cutting back the amount of applicants that get in, cutting the funding offered to candidates, or both (likely). While I think that I'm still pretty good to get in, if they can't waive $27k a year tuition, I definitely can't go...FUCK YOU ECONOMY. Why isn't higher education free yet?

So I'm doing well on cutting back my car usage, and now that I only work like 2.5 miles from my house, I ride my bike to work. Even then, it still takes me less time than it took me to get to Starbucks in a car.

Verdict: all in all, job = good.
