Had some fun last night. I was trying out different Linux programs to work with my iPod shuffle. I really want to find a program that will transcode my OGG files to either MP3 or M4a then put them on my shuffle. So far I have found programs that do that but they all seem to stop my iPod from playing music after the songs are put on it. My solution for this has been to connect my iPod up to a laptop that
purplephred had given me because she didn't have a use for it.
Unfortunately for the laptop after about the 12th time of plugging the iPod back into the laptop smoke appeared smoldering up through the keyboard of the laptop and the laptop shut itself off. Upon further investigation it seems that a processor on the mother board is what fried and it seems to be unrelated to the actual plugging in of the iPod although it definitely consumes more power to run a USB device on a machine. Below for enjoyment is a picture of the burnt chip in the laptop.
