A Halloween Retrospective

1992 (Dorms):
I don't know what i dressed up as or if there's a picture. But here's a picture of a Halloween costume i had to make for one of my Art Foundation classes.

ETA: Rebecca says there was an Orange Death show in the dorm hallway on Halloween that year and Dave (who was in said band) confirms that everyone else was at the Daisy Chainsaw show in DC... so that clears up that year.

1993 (1106 Franklin)
I can't imagine i missed two Halloween's in a row, but i can't remember what i would have dressed up as.

1994 (House of Fleas era pt1)
Devo: blue jumpsuit
I remember putting the plastic hair together from an old ronald reagan mask on the roof of the House of Fleas

I ran into a Q and A era devotee at the 1208 party.

1995 (House of Fleas era pt2)
another glaring memory blank.

ETA: Melty says there was a 1208 Halloween party where Minnow played and we all wore Hawaiian shirts. This is confirmed by the fact that Nate would not have worn a Hawaiian shirt at any time other than Halloween.

1996 (House of Fleas era pt3)
silver jump suit with a home-made cardboard energy dome
I can't find any photographic evidence of this

1997 (Kensington Palace era pt 1)
Cloud from FFVII.
pretty screen acccurate. The sword was built from 1x2s and cardboard. The belt was an old weight lifting belt embelished with cardboard and the shoulder guard was a spraypainted arny helmet. This picture was taken in front of the wall outside Johnny and Joey's shoebox apartment. There's a pic of Joey in his spider-man costume climbing up the wall. How prophetic!

1998 (Kensington Palace era pt 2)
John Steed from the Avengers with Melty as Emma Peel. For some reason i couldn't find an umbrella so i made this one out of a cane, a trashbag and some coathangers.

This is at a party at Johnny, Joey, Dw and Kathy's house on Grace St.

1999 (South House era)
Oi! Vyvian from the Young Ones. Probably one of my most screen accurate costumes, down to the writing on the vest and one of the actual shirts Vyvian wore on the show (that i still have and still wear). Very Metal indeed!

This is at the Hub House on Floyd Ave, but i remember stomping around Richmond a lot that weekend and even ran into someone dressed as Neil!

Speaking of which... did anyone borrow my Young Ones DVDs? If so, please return them... no questions asked. :)

2000 (Grove apartment with Pete)
H.I. McDonough
decently screen accurrate, but made better because i look a little like nic cage.

2001 (San Diego)
I'd just moved to San Diego and had NOOOO money, so i found a lab coat at a thrift store and made some big cardboard glasses and went as Dexter from Dexter's Lab.
no pictures though.

2002 (San Diego)
I've been trying to put together a Dr. Who costume for years, but it didn't happen this year. I'd already bought the trenchcoat and I was able to throw together a servicable Inspector Gadget costume. I found a spring in the alley to make an extendable arm. I know there's a picture out there somewhere... but I don't have it.

2003 (San Diego)
Corey and I went to Vegas for a Comic-con with a bunch of folks. The con sucked, but Halloween in Vegas was cool. We went as Tank Girl and Booga. She made me the ears and tail.

2004 (San Diego)
I bought a moldy old white tux from a vintage shop in Richmond and then hand-painted the stripes. Possibly my most recognizable costume. People kept yelling at me out their car windows as we were walking around San Diego. I was totally the ghost with the most!

This outfit is only on screen for like three minutes...

2005 (Michigan)
I pulled out the ol' H.I. McDonough costume again, and Corey went as Bjork (obv)

2006 (Virginia)
King of the Cosmos

2007
Dirk the Daring

2008
Dwight K Schrute
w/ co-worker Aaron Blackwell as 3-hole punch Jim.

This doesn't include zombie walk costumes, Ren-fest costumes, or any various costume themed parties that happen throughout the year. maybe i'll post some of those later.
