More updates on life

The new job is interesting in the same way that a game of Nomic is interesting. I'm buried three levels deep in the contract/subcontract game, and where the boundaries are seems to be the primary preoccupation. The word "policy" came up three separate times during a technical conference call I was just on, I was instructed to call someone in North Carolina in order to get Visio on my laptop, and I'm now on my fourth person to report my hours to. All this is basically okay with me - I take copious notes anyway - but I can see it being frustrating down the line when I actually want to get something done. I'm not giving up on my own company, The Exchange, and down the line I can see working through them to aid this customer in a better way; this is almost exactly the sort of scenario I was envisioning when I incorporated the company. I could do things a lot better. Now I have to convince people of it, and that will take a while. Patience...

A couple of days ago, efbq and I had our anniversary. She's been married to me for far longer than any decent person really should be subjected to, and I of course love her dearly for it. We ended up spending it dealing with Green Party business, as folks were in town and that was the only time we could do it; later this week comes a nice dinner out somewheres and perhaps a bit of yummy fun with the doors closed to avoid editorial comment from the chibis.

I hate harping on this, but I've had pictures taken of me lately, and gawd, but I look awful. The years are not being kind to me. In particular I'm thinking I should do something about my hair or lack thereof; losing it all is not too terrific of a prospect, but anything's got to be better than having half of it gone. It's either Rogaine or razor - something has just gotta be done.

I got stopped by the varsity soccer coach at the high school last night. He pays very close attention to the team's grades, which I appreciate, to the point of requesting early copies of their report cards, and he had a big grin on his face when he saw me. Kid-1 pulled another 4.0 quarter, her third in a row. I mean, wow. The kiddies are kicking butt and taking names...I'm ashamed to say it, but it's to the point where I'm not surprised any more, which is kinda worng for me to feel, because they're doing great and they need to know it.

Oh, and please, folks, check out The Hidden Message and listen to the Secret Frequency.
