Simplify

It does occur to me that I am - finally - taking some steps towards simplifying my life. I've prepared the messages to send out in advance of the Green Party's annual nationwide meeting next month; my term is coming up and I've decided not to re-up. This doesn't mean that I'm giving up on the ideals of the party, or whatever, but I'm ready to tackle some other things. I want to do some work on democracy and election issues, for one: I'd like to push IRV and NPV and highlight the fact that third parties and independents do not have a vote in the primaries in Maryland. I want to organize Christian Greens as a caucus. I'd like to get the city of Columbia incorporated as an actual city with a separate government, instead of running it as a huge homeowners' association. I want to start my podcast (got many pointers on doing so at Balticon, thanks to cnvarbiter and the podcasting folks he knows), and am still hoping on getting dragonscholar, kdiddy, and sol_halo on board - not to mention some others like maybe eibii. I still feel I may be able to contribute to bringing an end to the war and get Bush and Cheney impeached. And of course there's some stuff I could do in advance of or during the 2008 elections with candidates and such.

Sounds odd that I would consider this a simplification, but in fact it is, since I'd now be doing so on my own time and using my own resources, rather than attempting to do so through the Green Party as their co-Chair. (The dirty secret is, of course, that the co-Chair's job is primarily concerned with paying the bills and raising the funds, and that's true whether the party in question is the Greens, the Libbies, or even the Republicans or the Democrats.)

Also decided to skip Coriolanus and concentrate on Volpone for the time being (and I'm not really doing that very well), after which I'll likely not be doing any theatre for at least a little while.

'Course, I will be officiating at a wedding soon...simplification is indeed relative.

Much running around this weekend, resulting in one exhausted scooterbird. Today was crazieabby's birthday party with all her friends - yes, I know it was back in May, but this is basically the first time we could choose to do it. Kid-2 is sick, which did not stop her from having fun all weekend in the company of papertigers and debboamerik, her cool sister and kinda-sister-in-law. (Kid-2 counts her among her voluntary siblings.) Many other things happened this weekend, but I can't go into them all right now. It was that frantic.
