Walking to Bree, or to first base

Apr 10, 2006 17:36

According to Google Earth, I covered 1.44 miles (must do this in miles for the Challenge) today at lunch - up to the corner of Joh and Vero, then back to work and back again to the sub shop (didn't have the money and had to go back for it). Not exactly bounding off towards Bree, but a fair start. I didn't have any difficulty actually doing it, ( Read more... )

If/when you register on the Shields page for the walk, lemme know what your name is so I can include you in the weekly update. Congrats on those first steps! And yes, jogging is indeed an extremely humbling experience. Your brain is saying "Hey, this shouldn't be so bad" and your body is saying "What the frick do you know about it, buster?"

Oh, it's worse than that. I used to run track in high school, and still pride myself in my running ability. The frustration is that it's all still there. I start to run, and my legs are a bit stiff, but still quite usable...the pace is still there in my brain and I can settle back into it nicely...I'm ready to go for a good time in the 880 - and that's when I run out of air. My brain is screaming, "You've got to be kidding me! Already??"

Still, I managed to knock off about 500 m of good solid jog, and stopped before I got winded, so not too bad yet.

...I can't see the "walking to Rivendell in no particular direction" thing without thinking of shifting Shadow...

Also, I know it's fairly common, but "coughed up a hairball on the mound" gives me all sorts of bizarre images, including the mess resulting from _batting_ a baseball-sized cat clog.

Hey, I'm grateful for that grand slam, since I've got Barrett on my fantasy team. Of course, I still lost 7-3 for the week, thanks to half my infielders winding up in platoon situations, but it rendered the situation not as humiliating as it could've been.

Details here. Basically, it's a cute, geeky way to get some exercise - and I don't see any reason why one couldn't rollerskate to Rivendell, though I'm picturing Elrond shouting, "Look out! Pregnant hobbit on rollerskates!" :-)
