So Saturday night I meet Greg and K at the Taco Mac in Buford. We are watching the UGA game and of course consuming beer. Greg and I are trying out the "high gravity" beer. I had about 5 of em. We leave at about midnight, headed to Greg's house up near Braselton. Greg is first, K is second, and I'm last. We get off the exit and turn left down this road toward Greg's and wouldn't you know it, a cop pulls out of this church parking lot and comes flying up behind me. I'm like "Oh shit". She lights me up and I pull off to the side as I watch Greg and K's tail lights fade in the distance. My heart is pounding and I'm pretty damn nervous. (Sidebar) We had talked out waitress into helping us sneak out 3 of the bottles we had purchased from Taco Mac. We put them in 2 of those styrophone take-out boxes and then put them into a Taco Mac bag. This bag is sitting on my passenger seat. (End sidebar) So the officer comes up to my window and ask me for my DL and insurance. I give them both to her and she returns to her car, not even hinting as to why she pulled me over. She comes back about 2 mins later and asks me to step out of the car. We proceed to the back of my car and she starts asking me questions. Where are you coming from? Did you have anything to drink? How many? I answer "Taco Mac" , "beer", "2 or 3". She tells me that she detected the presence of alcohol when she first came up to my window. Well now my heart is about to come out of my chest. I've never even been arrested before in the state of Ga. I'm thinking the worst possible things. "I'm going to lose my job." "Greg better come bail my ass out." "Maybe I could just make a run for it." Well she tells me that she is going to conduct some tests to see if I'm impaired. We do the "moving finger" test. Where she moves her finger back n forth and I have to follow it without moving my head. I know these tests are designed to make you fail and I know I'm fucked. After about 5 min of my watching her finger she says "O.k. Mr. Britt, I'm going to stop the test now." I was ready to put my hands behind my back. But to my amazement and wonder she says "You're fine and you passed the test." I do not think I've ever had a greater sense of relief in my entire life. But she thens asks "Do you mind if I search your car?" At this moment I'm so happy I respond with "As long as you wash it afterwards." She laughs. I then remembered the empty bottled on the passenger seat. "Oh shit!!", I thought. I tell her about the bottles and she is cool with it. She even liked them. "Those are some pretty cool bottles." She gets done searching and of course finds nothing and then tells me I can get back into my car. She comes back with my DL and insurance and tells me that she is only going to give me a warning for speeding. I knew there was know way she could know that because my radar detector never went off. But of course I wasn't going to tell her that. Tells me to have a nice night and on my way I went. I could not believe I passed that test. I could not believe I was not headed for jail. LUCKY!! That was the first time I've been out in a month or so. I'm never going out again!!!
Hope everyone had a good weekend.
