Ok, let's get this straight. At the Rose Bowl the other night, USC was not competing for its third straight national championship. USC was competing for its second straight national championship and lost. Now for many of you this is common sense, but for those who do not see this, I'll spell it out.

The 2003 ADT trophy (a.k.a. the crystal football, the national championship trophy) went to LSU.
The 2004 ADT trophy went to USC.
The 2005 ADT trophy went to Texas.

You can't win three straight national championships if you haven't won two already. USC did not win two national championships. "Oh, but they won the AP poll in 2003 because we beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl!" Well, that's just fine, but it's not the national championship agreed upon by all the major Division I-A conferences, and therefore is NOT the national championship.

You can't change the rules in the middle of the game, but you can apparently get ABC (who televises all the BCS games) and ESPN (who are both owned by Disney, by the way) to be on your side and make it appear that you are going for your third national championship.
