Xander was working on the hut, when Clark finally asks about what's got him so down lately. Almost reluctantly, Xander explains about breaking up with Jill and the reasons why. An explanation that includes a kiss that shakes Clark up a enough that neither boy is comfortable in the end.
It was no surprise that Xander was feeling so low lately. Well, that is when he bothered to tell people. Most people, like those on his building crew and in his classes, just asked him why he was down and accepted the half hearted answer he gave them. Bad Day. Didn't Sleep. Never once 'Jill broke up with me because I'm an idiot.' It hurt too much to say. Today, Xander was working on repairing the hut he now shared with Clark. It was almost ironic. He'd asked Clark to move in because he was lonely without Buffy. The ironic part was...living together was the cloest part of thier relationship. Nothing else. Not that he blamed Clark for what Jill thought...it was going to happen eventually afterall. Xander sighed as he continued what he was doing, sitting on the roof of his hut as he repaired the thatching, weaving new palm in where the older had gotten weak. It was something to do as he tried not to think of the mess that was his life.
Clark had noticed the initial mope, and after that very...strange and awkward conversation with Jill, Clark could only assume that things had gotten...tense and ended badly, but he hadn't quite asked. Sure, he probably should've but he also knew that sometimes people needed some time to greive. However, it was only a matter of time before it just started to...get uncomfortable. "Hey," he said, placing his hand at his forehead to give him shade as he looked up, "do you want something to drink?" Water. It was hot out.
Xander blinked in surprise as he'd been so caught up in what he was doing that he hadn't noticed Clark. Also in that moment, he suddenly realized how hot and a bit sore he was. He took a moment to strech before nodding. "Yeah, that'd be great. Thanks." After streching once more, he finished the bit he was doing before starting to climb down.
Clark went in quickly to grab some water, and then came back out to hand to his friend the glass of water. "How's it going," he asked, glancing up ath the roof.
Taking the offered glass, Xander ran a hand through his blondish green hair to get it out of his eyes before taking a long drink. Then he glanced up at the roof before shrugging. "I think. We'll know the next time it rains. I"m pretty sure I got that spot in your room though." His voice was flat and tired, as it had been for days now.
"Thanks," Clark said. "Do you need any help?" He glanced back at his friend. "I did my fair share of repairs on the farm." He watched his friend carefully, almost suspiciously. The tired and energiless look was becoming normal, and Clark didn't like that look on Xander (any more than he liked the green hair, either).
"I got it, thanks." Xander said, once more looking up at the roof, almost distractedly. "It gives me something to do." To not think about things was more like it.
"You okay?" he asked, brows furrowing. "Because I've been trying to do the...waiting until you're ready thing, but I'm starting to get worried."
Honestly, Xander had been wondering when Clark would say something. It amazed him that his friend had held off this long. Still...did he want to talk about this, with Clark of all people? He gave Clark a long considering look before running his hand through his hair for a moment. "No. I..." He sighed. "Jill broke up with me." There was a pause...then he leaned forward, put a hand on Clark's neck and kisses him gently. He pulled away a heart beat later, looking down at his feet. "Sorry I...I guess I just wanted to see what it was like, just once...since it was part of the reason why she did it."
Clark blinked because that was...well, completely and utterly unexpected. "Uh," he started, trying to think of the right thing to say, but all he could follow the 'uh' with was,"what?"
That...didn't really help matters any. Xander almost visably shrank in on himself, arms hugging his middle as he tried to explain. "She...she thought there was something going on with me and you. I know there isn't but I couldn't say no. She seemed so convinced and in truth, it was about time something like this happened. Something like this always happens to me. So I let her believe it and she broke up with me. And I just...wanted to see what it was like. What I supposedly did. I'm sorry."
"I'm really confused," he replied, blinking some more. "Do you kiss your guy friends a lot? Is that what always happens?" What always happened? Clark ran his hands through his hair and tried to focus enough so that he could understand.
Xander sighed as he tired to think of what to say. "Well...no. I don't go around kissing my guy friends." He left out that he'd never really had many guy friends to begin with. He sighed again. "I screw things up. That's what always happens. Jill was convinced something was going on with me and you. And I couldn't say no..." He admitted softly. "So I just wanted to see what it was like...just once."
"I don't know what to say to all this," he said, brows furrowing. "I'm sorry?" He paused. "That I messed things up for you somehow." He cleared his throat. "Why couldn't you say no?"
"It's not your fault." Xander said with another small shrug, "Like I siad, it would have happened eventually. Sooner rather then later right." He looked down at his feet again, not able to look at Clark. "I would have been lying almost. Or atleast...it felt that way." He flushed.
"I'm going for a walk," Clark said slowly. "I just." His brow still furrowed and he ran his fingers through his hair. "I'll be back later, yeah?"
"Yeah," He replied as he swallowed past the large lump in his throat. "Yeah okay. I..." He paused for a moment. "Never mind. I'll see you later Clark." He turned away, going back to the water Clark had given him, taking long gulps of it as he moved into the hut to clean up.
