This season... it's like Sara left and so did the Win.
The last episode involved Nick and Brass driving Drops, a recurring character suspect they got day released from prison, around the city looking for his girlfriend who was a murder suspect/kidnap victim. It's during episodes like this that you get poked right in the eye with the fact that CSI is a white show made by white people for white people. Brass's casual racism (all black men are criminals, all black men are pimps, their food is disgusting, etc) made me squirm.
Also, why did this plot happen in the first place? Isn't CSI about using the evidence to solve the crime, not about busting some dude out of jail so you can drive around making racist jokes like Beverly Hills Cop? Hahaha doesn't the black man eat gross food and talk funny? Hahaha don't the white men look out of place in "the hood"? Really, this kind of shallow storyline is insulting on so many levels.
Oh, and the previous episode had a little hispanic girl whose parents bleached her hair so that she would "fit in"... And this was pretty much accepted by the team with no comment. Aargh!
Couple this with the tendency of late for CSI to do the "women aren't victims, they're secretly terrifying murderers who kill their families whilst being weirdly sexy" thing, and I think this series might be losing its charm.
Bring back Doc Robbins and Grissom singing over corpses. Bring back meaningful interaction between the leads. Bring back Grissom's obsession for detail. And then give me a call. I'll be watching CSI: NY.
