The Jedi Phone!

Dec 01, 2004 23:20

One more in the bathroom. I was wondering what on earth a trap was doing in the bathroom, but there was no time for jokes. I had a phone call to make. Turning around, I saw Angel worrying about his LA crew, and that was good. Although I was still worried about the fact that the slightest turn of my back would cause a massacre of him. The demon, giving him plentiful stares weren't enough, everyone else in the house was.

I couldn't get over the fact that he was even here in the first place. with his pregnant wife sitting at home. What was he planning to find here anyway? A nice little home for the three of them?

Oh yeah, right. Riley: Soldier. He was looking for the same thing we were. And that was....anything and everything that had to do with Sunnydale.

I made my way around the sudden hole in the kitchen all for getting to the phone to talk with Giles. He needed to know about the little encounters and the welcome: Back Sunnydale. In all honesty, I was completely surprised that he hadn’t’ decided to come here. I mean, I understand the whole deal of being British, and asking me to scope it out..and then there’s the whole deal with the new council. How he needs to stay on track…but come on! Giles, this is the town we destroyed…and this is the town that miraculously re appeared. I think the paperwork can wait. Besides..it was a nice little excuse for me to catch up with him. It seemed the only time we ever called each other was when we all had a crisis, or a birthday. It figured. Giles’ birthday wasn’t for a few months…I still had to get him something.

Somehow I still managed to memorize the phone number to his main office, and special calls line. Andrew had a funky name for the line, It was..the call of Mini Jedi..or something. I think it had a little star wars taste in it. That always kept Giles on his toes. Good for him.

I finally made my way past the hole that was bigger than what I thought it would be. Once, I thought I was going to fall through it, because there was a floor board that was loose, and my reflexes were primed. The loose floorboard, went down in the hole, making a loud noise, while I somehow managed to hang on to the side wall board. I saw Spike, Angel and Riley look at me.

Wow, three men I never thought I’d use in the same sentence.

I gave Riley a dirty look, and headed back in the direction of the phone where I dialed the secret number that Andrew so eloquently made for us. Giles would be waiting by the phone. Well.. He’d better be.

The phone rang about 1.5 times before I heard a scramble after it was picked up. Oops, forgot they were about eight hours a head of us.

”Buffy?”

“Yeah, Giles. Remember? This is our private phone line. How are you? Did I wake you up?”

”Buffy, it’s 8 AM. You didn’t wake me up. What’s wrong? Did you find anything about the appearance of Sunnydale?”

I heard Andrew in the background yelling something like don’t say anything specific in the phone lines they’re tapped or something. Then I heard him yelling randomly.

“I hear Andrew’s got his new X box. And what’s with the tapped phone lines? We aren’t going all Enemy of The State are we?”

”Buffy, no, it’s Andrew. I swear if he becomes anything like Spike was that day I had to babysit him, I’m going to go crazy. He’s got me limited to beating his Xena.”

“What? Oh. X-box lingo. Giles, you’re beginning to scare me with your adaptation of the American tradition. Especially Americans like Andrew. If anything, become someone like a rock star..not a nerd that watches too many sci-fi movies.”

“Believe me Buffy, if I become too much more like you bloody Americans, I don’t know what I’d do. I’m playing a video game at eight o’ clock in the morning. At least I’ve still got my tea. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t even be here.”

“Oh come on! It’s fun...”

He started saying something then interrupted himself with a bloody hell.

“ Buffy, what’s going on down there?”

“Oh yeah. Sunnydale.. Giles, everything is messed up over here. That was a given..but something else is wrong. Like people coming back from the dead wrong. And vampires talking about a worse off hellmouth than before. Giles, I think they can come into houses with out being invited.”

”Good lord. Would it pain you to explain?”

“Giles. Cordelia..Anya. They’re alive. Angel and spike were able to come into houses without being invited, and we had a run in with a lot of vampires around my grave. They mentioned something that was worse than the first..or something. I don’t know, but it might require a lot of bookwork. I haven’t figured out exactly what or who’s behind this, but Some one must have done some pretty high mojo. I’m guessing some sort of maniac that thinks they can rule the world with the hell mouth. Have you found anything?”

”What do you mean Anya’s back? Cordelia? Angel? Buffy, I can’t find anything. Andrew and I have searched the files, and found nothing.”

There was silence on the phone. Then a sigh, and I’m guessing a cleaning of the glasses.
<
I> “Someone doesn’t want us there, Buffy, I think you should get out of there before something happens. All the planes headed to Sunnydale from England are closed. They blame it on a navigation problem...considering it’s not supposed to be there, I can understand.”

“Giles, I’m not leaving. We need to figure this out. I’ll keep searching and patrolling with Angel, Riley, Spike and Illyria. Extra muscle can always get us answers. I guess I’ll keep you posted on the activity not of the norm. Maybe we can find something out via phone.”

“Yes, Buffy. The first way we can think of coming down there, we’ll be there. Be careful, and for God sakes, don’t let everyone kill each other over there. My guess is that everything is going to be stronger than before, and that means stay armed at all times. We can’t afford to lose you all again due to recklessness. Don’t do anything rashional. The hellmouth doesn’t seem to be growing, but it lingers there. Don’t go thinking you can close it with an amulet this time, Buffy. If what these vampires say, you’ve got yourself a much harder obstacle ahead of you. Ahead of all of us. I've got everyone working on it as we speak, and notihing is coming up. Nothing like this has happened before as far as I can tell, so that means that whatever this is, it's new..and that means we don't have any clue how to kill it..or them. I’ll call as soon as I can. Thank God the phones are working. I’m glad you called. I was beginning to worry.”

“Thanks Giles. I won’t do anything rash until we get some answers. There isn’t much left for us to do tonight anyway. In the morning we’ll get in research mode and the night, I’ll try to get some inside intel. There is bound to be a vampire that's willing to talk instead of being tortured with a lot of holy water. Talk to you soon?”

”Buffy, be careful. Your friends have come back from the dead. I’m not saying you can’t trust them, but be alert and aware that anything is possible. I’ll get in touch tomorrow.”

With that he clicked the phone down. I didn’t even think of not trusting Anya or Cordelia. It never crossed my mind..and now Xander was with Anya. A wave of fears went through me, but I didn’t jump just yet. There was no proof that she came back evil.

I stared at the phone for a few minutes, and then looked out the window, expecting any minute to get ambushed or something. I knew that Angel was behind me, but I didn't look back. I just kinda wanted to stare out the window and pretend it was a dream.

Too bad it wasn't. Seems though I wouldn't be able to sleep for the life of me.

Yep, Buffy was going to be sleep deprived for a while.
