Due to a certain beloved sister's graduation I have found myself in a bit of a difficult situation regarding Arabic lately. I have been working double time on my homework, trying to get all of it done for the classes i'm going to miss when I leave town on Friday, but it turns out that Arabic does not lend itself well to this rushed, half-assed attempt to fill in the blanks. The plan was to originally get it all down and then spend time going back over the units to really engrain it while flying to and from DC. The problem with this, is that unlike spanish, I have no grasp on Arabic what so ever, so the filling in of the blanks is much more difficult. Just one night of homework is taking me three hours to complete with the listening exercises, drills, and writing practices involved in them. I managed to get through all of unit one, all of unit two, and started on unit three, but this is where the big problems came. I have no idea what is going on with what is called the hamza. it basically looks like a c with a tail and makes the sound that you kind of make while saying uh-oh, our, if, it, on, I, and upon. What's that you ask? You mean those don't make a common sound? Well that's right. The hamza is for the sound you don't make but could make with the weird throat closure you naturally do right before you say those words but before you actually say anything if you applied it to letters that you never really apply it to in English. Its a little frustrating since we won't be touching it until next tuesday...
In other news: I have had this song stuck in my head for 48 hours. Enjoy.
