Today, the lobby of V & V Paint and Body Shop was filled with the sounds of CNN. This isn't surprising or odd in anyway, we have CNN on every day, but today I couldn't help wondering if this is what it felt like during the last few communist scares.
The last couple months I have started noticing an anti-China trend. It started simple enough with the giant panda on the empire state-building making its home on the Economist, and then whispers here and there about China taking over the world, leaning dangerously toward saying they were going to beat out America. Then there was the toothpaste scare, and then the Asian carp, and now the good people of the Cable News Network are announcing companies identifying their products as "China free" and I can't help flashing back to the freedom fries/ French ban incident following 9/11. Slowly but surely this is getting ridiculous and it seems a little too perfect for all of these China-centric criticisms to be coming to light at the same time. Yes China is thriving, yes America is feeding it, but its not like the Chinese are eatting babies.
