Tail Gater SDT

Last year this was a one day trial.  So glad to have it be a two day trial this year.  We have one more of these trails for the summer in a couple weeks. This trial is held in a 20 acre field that is mostly dirt.  Not a huge outrun, but a bit tricky because the sheep blend in really well and even the humans have a some trouble spotting the sheep.  It was standard outrun, lift, fetch, counter clockwise, right hand drive, crossdrive and pen.

I chose to send him on an away flank.  He didn't spot his sheep, but ran out looking.  He caught sight of the set out pens and got locked onto those.  Darn it!  I called him off and was able to give him an away whistle, which he took.  Then we were off!  I gave a wrong flank whistle, which my good boy Rooster took with gusto!  Darn!  Good drive, bad, high crossdrive and a few roundy, roundy the pen and I closed the gate.  We scored 51 points.

Today I Meagan went with me so we could go look at a van after.  It was fun to have her along!  Today Rooster was awesome, found his sheep with no problem.  I messed him up at the crossdrive panel and let them get to high on the crossdrive.  He did stop to pee!  Bad Rooster!  After getting scolded, he moved on like nothing had happened.  We scored 70 points and ended up 3rd and won a $100!  I think that's more than I ever won in 18 years of Steeplechase in agility.  I bought Rooster a hamburger on the way home.

Rooster got to go with me to work pens.  We were helping for novice and it was a long way up to where they were set, so Rooster was there to help get them away from the pens so the set out dog could pick them up.  He did a good job.  So happy with my Rooster!

Waiting for our sheep to be set
