Dude, it's not an adventure if you have hotel plans *before* you get stuck on an airport in the middle of the night!!

But do tell me what the ORD Hilton is like; I've been curious. :-)

oh, I've done that twice. Once at ORD, once at DTW. Not particularly exciting...

I've done it at ORD in a snowstorm after UA had mechanical difficulties; they put me in a Holiday Inn some distance from the hotel for about three hours until it was time to go back to ORD to try to fly.

And recently it happened to me at PHL when there were tornadoes in the DC area; on about the thirtieth hotel I phoned from PHL at 1:00 in the morning I found a room, eventually got a shuttle, rode in that for half an hour, stood in a line of about 20 people to check in, lay down briefly, and then it was time to go back to the airport. I was a grumpy fsck the next day.

Both times I was originating in BWI. And guess where I'm going next week?

wow. Yeah, I was lucky both times and got a good amount of sleep - both were one-off failures: mechanical issue / unable to land at YOW due to fog. So it was easy to get a room...

You seem to travel so often! :) Is this because of your job?

Sometimes, and sometimes for fun. I don't get much vacation time though so that part is a bit limited.

Recent trips: Tokyo was for work, with a side trip to Thailand for fun. San Francisco / Burning Man was obviously fun, though I worked for the first week I was there. Boulder is obviously work.

not that going to Tokyo isn't fun... but business travel is different. If I'm going somewhere interesting I usually find a day or two to explore, though it's never really enough.

While I've always wanted to stay at an airport hotel, Boulder was surprisingly nice to visit for work a month or so ago. I was only there for a day, but the mountains were really pretty, it's a bike-friendly city, and the vegan had *no* troubles eating.

No idea if there was anything to actually do there, mind you =) The best I can say is that the Google reception area has a climbing wall and Guitar Hero !

Tks,
Jeff Bailey

Well, apparently a friend of a friend has recently moved there and is a climber, so next time I'll stay for longer and go climb :) For now, the travel is booked so I'll stick with it and hopefully get to a climbing gym with him during the evening.
