Dia De Los Muertos celebration in the San Francisco Mission

Nov 02, 2007 22:34

So my good friend Leslie and I were walking home from our dinner in the Mission. It looked like a night to be out. There were vendors, altars, and hella people were walking around with their faces painted as skulls (similar to our contingent during last weeks Anti-War mobilization.) It was actually pretty difficult to get around because of the crowd. We actually had to walk through an actual parade going on just to get to the car. While walking through the crowd I noticed something off during this "day of the dead." Most of the people marching were WHITE. That's right..WHITE. I do have to mention the handful of Asians and two or three black folks in the crowd. But seriously, 90% of the folks "celebrating" were NOT of Latino descent. Wait, let me correct myself, there were alot of Latino people in the Mission tonight. They were working.
