Top 10 Albums of 2004

Dec 30, 2004 21:48

its that time of the year again (the end).. and so it's time for the TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2004!!!!!!!!!!!
here we go..

(honorable mention, becuase i later realized that Muse's Absolution could be on the list, and therefor it knocked everything after it down a notch))11. Head Automatica - "Decadence"
Mr. Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw fame decides he isn't angry anymore and that he just wants to dance.

10. Wake Up On Fire - "wake up on fire"
this crust-doom-sludge-metal band from Baltimore that oval portrait played with, the most terrifying lead singer ever (he looked like a mix between a lion and a professional wrestler, with dreadlocks) and one of the best live bands i've seen ever, i think they were all homeless

9. Sleep Station - "After the War"
it's no coincidence that "Debiak" rhymes with "maniac".. all i'll say is.. you sit in a hotel room with dave debiak at 3 am while he has had a bit to drink, added to his previous chemical imbalances, and listen to the stories that he tells... now imagine doing this for 10 nights straight.

8. Planes Mistaken For Stars - "Up In Them Guts
Our dear friends form Colorado finally make their return with Up In Them Guts... and last time they came and slept over matts i finally got an explanation as to what the fuck the deal is with this album's cover.

7. Muse - "Absolution"
This album came out oversease last year but its american release was this year so it technically can be on the list, and it woul dbe much higher on teh list if the second half of the album was as good as the first half is.

6. Neurosis - "The Eye Of Every Storm"
Without Neurosis,.. actually,... i dont even want to think about what music would be like without neurosis.. All hail the mighty Neurosis

5. Mastodon - "Leviathan"
Ok the first thing's i knew about this band were their name, some of their song titles, and the fact that their new album is a concept record written about the book Moby Dick.. so i when i saw them open for slayer, i was REALLY disappointed that they didnt all have long hair and beards.. but i got the cd and it's awesome.. but still, they should all have long hair and beards.

4. Converge - "You Fail Me"
the lyrics for this entire cd are basically one insanely long sentence. musically, it's a good follow up to Jane Doe (which was the best album of 2002), but you have to listen to it a few times to realize that.

3. Rasputina - "Frustration Plantation"
The ladies Cello Society goes back 200 hundred years and records a cd inspired by civil war-era south, complete with slave songs and all.. and all by two cellos and a drummer, and it still rocks harder than most of the other cds of the year. and they get bonus point for Melora wearing a hat with a life sized stuffed rooster on it for halloween

2. Isis - "Panopticon"
This cd sounds like it was written and played by those big tree people from Middle Earth in lord of the rings

1!!!!!. the dissociatives - "the dissociatives"
Daniel Johns from Silverchair goes even crazier and forms a new group with DJ Paul Mac (which when you think about it, is really similar to how Daryl with Glassjaw and Head Automatica... except this all happened in Australia, and replace the dancing with demented hallucinations). What they produce is probably the weirdest pop music ever made... ever. This band cant even be compared to any other bands really but just think pop music and add enough LSD to kill all of san fransisco, this album is probably what you'd end up with. Then, add on the fact that all the artwork and music videos so far have the band animated as having giant heads and hands in strange computer-animated worlds. BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR
