Kvothe has been on edge since the previous night, and his dreams were plagued by nightmares like he hasn't had in years. He's just starting to wonder why he hasn't seen Bast yet today when, as he passes through the room, he sees the box. He glances at it curiously as he walks past, and stops with a sudden sense of cold forboding when he sees his name on the note. He unfolds the note and reads it, then silently sets it down as he picks up the box, opens it, and looks inside
( ... )
Kvothe is always very noticable, his flame-red hair is as good as a sign. He sees her, but he does not know the girl that he is supposed to talk to and doesn't realize it's her. His eyes are still cold and so dark they're nearly black as they rest on her for a moment before continuing to look around the room. The original note is still in his pocket.
"Melisande?" His voice is sharp and angry when he hears the name, but at least now he knows who it was. He takes a slow, deep breath and his tone softens as he addresses Iphi. "I'm not going to hurt you. Please come with me, I need to write down my response to her." He has a strong aura of authority as he speaks, and when he turns to go back to his room he assumes that she will follow.
She probably is safer than she's been in hours. He's going to be silent until they get to his room, where he'll open the door and gesture for her to precede him in.
His room is scrupulously neat but minimal. On a desk is a bit of paper, pen and ink, and a small box.
He enters after her and closes the door securely. He does not want to be overheard, so he keeps his voice low as well. "Everything you can. Especially where to find her."
And him. But he's not going to hope that she's actually seen Bast, though she at least seems to know what's going on.
