First day of Kindergarten

Well, today was the day. It went smoothly. I let him pick out his clothes. Luckily I've noted that he has a sense of style already and what he picked out for himself was very cute and appropriate. He even wanted to wear his "nice" shoes.

I took a couple photos of him with his backpack and lunch box, a nice metal one as opposed to the popular plastic ones. I took the camera with me to the school, but he decided he didn't want his dad fawning over him with the camera, so I didn't bring it in.

Oh, but horror of horrors, I forgot all the school supplies in the rush to get everything together. 0_o. Ah well...

I felt a bit out of place amongst the soccer moms interspersed with the women in business suits and their cyborg-like earbuds. There were a few dads there. A. felt quite at ease though it seemed.

We walked down the hall to his class and with ease he found his spot and sat. He hadn't even hugged me or said good bye. As I was about to leave, I waved to him and he got up and ran over to give me a big hug... I didn't want to stick around as some of the other parents seemed likely to do, peering in the window to see how their kids' first few moments of Kindergarten went, feeling that thread loosening just a bit more...

It wasn't until I was a block or two away, watching one mother walking her son to his first day of school, that the tears began. I had told myself that I wouldn't. After all, he's been in pre-k and before that, daycare, for some time. But this is obviously different. He's made it to the show.
