Well I didn’t update after my first day of work, or second or third, and in all fairness Rachel did remind me. Working 8 hours learning literally hundreds of screens of mortgage information software plus 3-4 hours of dealing with/cleaning up after stupid uncourtious people tends to be draining, just a bit. On the plus side I am getting my first Tri-Starr 40 hour week paycheck next Thursday and I’ll get both a Tri-Starr and my last HT check which won’t be to shabby. I’m kind of looking forward to getting paid weekly, not to mention the checks being at least what my two week HT checks were.
Regarding my new job: There are so so many details that go into making a mortgage happen. I’ve been doing entirely training so far and I’m now understanding kind of how things should work. The problem comes in when things don’t work the way you think they should. This fact is what keeps me employed, that and people who can’t read or follow instructions. I listened in on a phone call where the Loan Officer (they are the ones selling the mortgages and putting the info in originally) told us that he definitely did not put X information in Y field (which his error indicated that he did) the tech guy walked him through emailing the whole thing to us so we could look at it, a process which took easily 15 minuets of repeating our email address over and over and over again for him to get it right (it took 3 trys) Upon opening the file he had in fact put X information in Y field (which happened to be the very first field on the first page of the loan) Anyways, learning all of this is going to be quite a process and so far we’ve not actually had any examples of questions/problems we’ll be getting, only instruction on how the main program works. This is frustrating as our ‘practice’ has us enter info that is normaly put in with a different program, and since the man program isn’t made for data entry there’s some (a lot) of weirdness. I think that soon we’ll be doing practice problems so that will be good. The other thing about all this is that mortgages are exceptionally boring. I’ve had trouble staying awake while someone runs through screens and what they do with me, which doesn’t help me remember any better. I figure that next week will be better as I’ll be settled and not be spending as much time working elsewhere.
Speaking of which; tonight was my final night of work at HT. In some ways I’m sad to see it go, though Beth told me flat out that I’ll always have a job with her reguardless of whether there are any open positions. It’s very reassuring that I can go to someone at anytime and have them make a position for me simply based on my past work history. Makes me feel good. I’m definitely not going to be missing dealing with stupid rude customers (Erin was rather impressed that I was nice to some very rude obnoxious people since it was my last night and all. I honestly hadn’t even considered being anything other than my usual customer service focused self. Guess that’s a good thing, since I was apparently hired to my new job based on my customer service skills. It’s actually kind of funny because someone came in for an interview today for the third position they’re looking to fill. It’s interesting watching proceedings that a few weeks ago I went through.
In other aspects of my life: I’m loving the Corrado. No I’ve not gotten around to taking pictures yet Jason, soon, after I wash it. I’m planning on getting it inspected soon, so that it matched the registration date but I have to work out when I can obtain non-self-transportation. Once I’ve got bills and such all paid off, which should be pretty soon with this new job I’d like to start doing some work on the Corrado. Not riceing it out, no worries there, just prolly suspension and some minor engine tuning. I really enjoy that I can drive fast like I did in the Z and still get at least 5 more miles per gallon of gas. I also find it quite amusing that both the new Ford Focus and Chevy Cobolt have larger (2.5l vs. 1.8l) engines and have less HP than the Corrado. The Chevy even has a supercharger on it. Horray for 15 year old German engineering. I’m still looking for some to buy the Z. Though Phil has mentioned that he’d be up for trying out painting it, so I could do a good bit of body work and get it looking pretty. That is, of course, something that would take a good bit of time, which I have less of now, so we’ll see.
Ok, all for now, it’s been quite an update.
