I really like the idea of author recommendations--that's how I've found some favorite stories on other archives.
The layout is very pretty, especially for individual authors' archives, but I'm a little disconcerted by the all-caps format of the stories themselves...it's stylish but it detracts from readability, especially in the longer stories.
All-caps!? what? in the story content itself? *boggled* Wait, do you mean the all-caps of the titles of the stories (in the suggested-part)? Uhm, if you mean the body of the story then I *really* broke something this afternoon! What browser are you using, and I'll fix it ASAP.
erm, I mean: if I know what browser you're using then I'll know whether it's a setting that throws an error (or is a tag unclosed or something) as opposed to the cause being some other issue.
Yep, the body text elements in the stories in the new layout are showing up as all caps, and the lead-in lines have squished vertical spacing...I'm viewing the site through Internet Explorer 7. (I flipped back to the old layout, and the fonts and vertical spacing look normal to me.
nooooooooooooo not the dreaded IE7. I swear, I honestly swear. Okay, there's a tag missing somewhere -- gimme about fifteen and I'll see if I can find it...
LOL! Coding stylesheets that work well across multiple browsers is a royal pain, isn't it?
This kind of QA work is part of what I'm doing in my day job right now. It's an interesting gig (setting up health, safety, and convenience store merchandising sites for the Asia Pacific region for a major energy company) but imagine proofing layout and text flow...in THAI. (Gorgeous script, but any corrections sent to me by my contacts in Thailand are done by a painful process of pattern-matching since I don't read Thai.)
