Love

I've forgotten how much I love Sam and Jack. My brother, who likes to imitate me, put on an episode of Stargate SG-1. It happened to be Entity. First of all, it was really sad that in the teaser before the beginning credits after Siler or Walter or whoever got zapped (I think it was Siler, but I didn't have my glasses on) fell over, I was like "Oh, is this the one where Sam burns her hand?" Cue scream from her while clutching her hand. Yup. Wow. Who remembers that? I wasn't even sure which episode it was at first, but that I remembered.

Anyway, most of my shipping energy has been devoted to Ten/Rose, and I had to be an idiot and look at the spoilers. Bloody hell. I'm not sure whether to be happy or upset - I think both are appropriate, given the circumstances. So I think I need some time away from Doctor Who... I need to digest. I'll still watch the episodes, but...yeah.

So Stargate, maybe, or TXF. The new TXF movie is coming out, and my dorky friends and I are so excited. I have a posse of about six people who I'm going to go with, possibly on opening day. I love Mulder and Scully too. They resemble Sam and Jack in a lot of ways, except they are apparently more intelligent because as soon as they can be together, they kind of are. But even compared to M/S, S/J has a certain innocent quality. I don't want to attribute deeper emotions that Jack is capable of to him, but it's true he plays stupid most of the time. He's completely capable of love. He's not as complex a character as, say, the Doctor. He's a simple man who simply loves. It's his circumstances that place constraints upon his feelings. One thing that feels odd about S/J is that there is no real setup. Why are they in love? They just are. There is no real reason, like with Mulder and Scully. Moose and Squirrel depend upon each other as the only two are fighting the good fight. It's just not the same for Sam and Jack. Of course they depend upon each other in life and death situations, but I suppose it's just a simple case of attraction. It happens in real life, so why do they need special reasons in science fiction?

I think their innocence springs from the fact they have to keep their interactions at a level where they can claim friendly banter rather than be suspected of intimacy. Which both of their honor would never allow. They have one of the most normal relationships I ship for, and it's refreshing to see them again and be reminded why I love them.
