The definition of science fiction is a tricky one-- no one definition has really been universally accepted, and the line between scifi and other genres like fantasy, horror, spy-fi, etc. continues to be debated. The following statements, however, are helpful in defining the genre.

"Fantasy is the impossible made probable. Science Fiction is the ( Read more... )

I'm really excited about SW too! Thanks for the suggestions for new additions. Here's the verdicts:

I added The Chronicles of Riddick Trilogy.

The Resident Evil films I'm going to say no to. I haven't seen the movies, but I read through the Wiki article and IMO zombies fall under horror/fantasy because they don't have a strictly "science" aspect to them, if that makes sense. If there's further information I should be aware of and/or you want to make an argument for it, please feel free to do so and I'll reconsider.

The Fifth Element I'm on the fence about. Obviously a lot of it is classic scifi-- futuristic, distant planets, etc. etc.-- but the stones representing the four elements strike me as very mystical/fantasy as opposed to science fiction, and they're a major part of the plot of the movie. Convince me? IDK.

But the zombies cloned her and became all CLONES of the main character! Not normal zombies, LOL.

Is the Clone Wars TV series included under the Star Wars banner?

Yep! I'll edit the post to make a note of that. :)

I'd also like if you could consider "The Fifth Element". There's nothing on the movie that doesn't scream scifi, imo. :)

I understand you hesitation about the stones, but it depends on the point of view. The stones were left on Earth by a highly advanced and powerful race, so we don't know what kind of technological advances they hide beneath their simple appearance. ;)

Also, what about "Contact"?

Oooh very interesting point about the stones, thanks for that insight. I'll think some more about it and I may watch the movie again to help me out. I'll definitely make a decision before we really get going with challenges though. :)

Contact! Great movie, I'll add it. :)

I don't understand the hesitation here... half the movie takes place in a spaceship, and the bad guys fire lasers instead of bullets.

Added The Fifth Element after watching it tonight. Sorry for the delay but I hadn't seen it in forever and Wikipedia wasn't helping much. :/ Thanks for the addition though! :)

How about:

Aaron Stone
Spider-Man(different series)

And are you looking to include animation or just live action? If so, how about:

Meet The Robinsons
Jimmy Neutron
My Life As A Teenage RobotThe Incredibles
Wall E
Treasure Planet

Also, while I would personally love to see it, I wasn't sure if Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs (film) would have a place here since in the film, it's about his technology, but I don't know if it's specific enough to be considered SCIFI.

Sorry, somehow my coding got messed up. I meant to add, The Incredibles. Additionally, I wanted to say, that of the animation, I don't want to seem like I'm bombarding, so consideration to the first 3 (Meet The Robinsons, Jimmy Neutron, and My Life As A Teenage Robot) would be greatly appreciated as opposed to The Incredibles, Wall E and Treasure Planet if you think there's too many. But of course, you can consider any and all and say yes or to any. You're the boss :)

Thanks for the additions! I added all of the ones you mentioned. I don't mind adding tons of stuff, as long as they're all things that you at least intend to maybe use in challenges. I don't want people randomly trolling Wikipedia looking for random stuff they have no intention of using, but as long as you think you might want to write a fic or make an icon of it or something, I'm happy to add as many things as you want. :)
