Special Days (Kendrix/Maya. Lost Galaxy)

AN: So, nomadskye mentioned that nobody seemed to write Maya/Kendrix and as that is something I've been meaning to write for ages... well, I came up with this. It's short and may possibly suck, considering I haven't really written PR in a while.
“You really don’t celebrate birthdays on Mirinoi?” Kendrix asked curiously, when they were back inside their quarters, lying on Maya’s hammock and swinging gently back and forth. Maya shook her head.
“No. Until I arrived here I’d never heard of the idea. And,” she finished with a wince, “I didn’t realise they were so important.”
Kendrix smiled and tugged her closer. “I guess it depends,” she said thoughtfully. “It’s a bit like Christmas, I think: a lot more important when you’re a child, less so when you’re older. But they are good for making you feel special, I suppose. Knowing that there’s people who care about you enough to celebrate the fact that you were born.”
Maya nodded thoughtfully. The people of Terra Venture had some strange ideas, birthdays the least of them, but she did like Kendrix’s reasoning. It was good to show someone you thought they were special, even if they were sometimes confusing. “So… when’s your birthday?” she asked, hopefully casually and Kendrix laughed softly.
“Not for another couple of months.”
“Oh.” So much for that idea, then, Maya thought in resignation. Still, at least it gave her time to come up with something and besides, she decided, running her fingers through Kendrix’s hair, there was nothing to say you had to wait for birthdays to show someone they were loved.
