angel_negra, she knows why. :P Although I'm not sure it's what she had in mind. Contains spoilers for episode 30 and as it's been a long time since I either wrote these guys or watched more than one episode at a time, their voices might be a little off. Also? This was supposed to be a drabble and ended up at just over 500 words. *sighs*
Takumi paced the floor of Kiba’s apartment, hands waving in front of him as he vented, glad that neither Osada-san or that Kaido guy was there to witness any of this insanity, finally wrapping up with “and you can’t just go around kissing people like that, Kiba!”
“It worked, didn’t it?” Kiba asked reasonably from his seat behind the table; he was the very picture of calm, logical thought and that image was a total lie because Kiba was sneaky and underhanded and had probably been planning this for a while.
“That’s not the point!” Takumi snapped, glaring at him. You’d think bickering with Mari would help with situations like these, but no: when he snapped at Mari, she snapped right back; Kiba just waited until he was finished then neatly pulled the ground out from under him.
“What is the point then?”
“I don’t know!”
“You’re very stubborn,” Kiba sighed, leaning back into the couch and stretching his legs and really that was all kinds of unfair for how distracting it was.
“I’m stubborn?” Takumi protested. “You’re just as bad as I am.”
Kiba beamed at him. “But who’d believe you?”
“Nobody, that’s who,” Takumi growled. “Well, Kusaka maybe.”
Kiba’s expression darkened at the mention of Kusaka, face rippling as the Orphenoch responded to the surge of anger the name produced. “You had to mention him, didn’t you.” It wasn’t a question and Takumi shifted uncomfortably.
“Sorry.” It was still something of a sore spot, that Kusaka had tried to pit them against each other, but he was sure Kusaka had had a reason. And hopefully that reason was something other than ‘all Orphenochs must die’. “But still,” he continued defiantly, “it wasn’t fair for you to kiss me before I could kiss you.” He folded his arms across his chest and glared at Kiba from the other side of the table.
Kiba blinked, startled, then he smiled again, his face brightening in a way that made Takumi very uneasy. “But if I’d waited for you to kiss me we’d still be waiting,” he pointed out, which was totally unfair and not true at all. “But you could always kiss me now if you wanted.”
“Maybe I don’t want to kiss you now, how about that?”
Kiba shrugged again, stretching and running his fingers through his hair. He was doing it on purpose, Takumi knew it. “Then I’ll kiss you again, instead.” His mouth quirked in a smile as he looked over at Takumi from under his eyelashes. “Of course, you’re welcome to stop me, if that’s what you want.”
“You,” Takumi glared, moving round the table to stand in front of Kiba, “are nowhere near as innocent as you look.”
“And you’re not as grouchy as you pretend, either.”
“Yes I am,” Takumi protested. “You don’t get round me that way, Kiba.”
Kiba grinned up at him, then pushed himself easily to his feet and it wasn’t at all reassuring for Takumi that he had a few centimetres on the other man. “Who says I want to get round you?”
Well, maybe he’d let Kiba get away with it this time. Next time, though, it wouldn’t be nearly so easy for Kiba Yuji to get what he wanted.
