“Oh no,” Shirogane said hastily, backing away from his teammates. “I’m not going.”

Kakeru gave him a disappointed look. “But you promised,” he reminded him. “You said you’d go with us the next time we went.”

“And you believed me?” Shirogane replied, looking around him desperately for an escape route.

“You’re making this a lot more difficult than it has to be,” Gaku told him, arms folded and glaring. “You’d think karaoke was a fate worse than death the way you’re acting.”

Well, it was all very well for him, Shirogane thought in annoyance. Gaku liked karaoke. In fact, he was usually the instigator of their many - oh, god, so many - karaoke parties. Not that the others needed much persuading.

“But--” he protested helplessly, “I--”

“Something wrong?”

Shirogane turned in relief at the sound of Ayase’s voice, and he barely resisted the urge to hide behind the other man and beg him to save him from karaoke. Only barely, though.

“No,” Sae replied cheerfully. “We’re going to karaoke and thought Shirogane might come with us.”

“He’s always managed to get out of it before,” Kai chimed in and Shirogane scowled at him, not that it had much noticeable effect. Kai just let scowls roll off him like water off a duck’s back. “So we’re taking steps this time.”

“Karaoke?” Ayase repeated, tone and expression equally dubious and Shirogane felt like he could kiss him right then. Surely, surely Ayase would get him out of this. He had great faith in the man’s sense of the appropriate. “Why don’t you want to go? You sing well enough.”

Or not. Traitor.

“Because--”

“Because he’s afraid we’ll get him singing something stupid, probably,” Gaku replied, sounding just as annoyed as Shirogane felt. Then the former GaoYellow looked Ayase over, thoughtfully, with the kind of scrutiny that left Shirogane itching to get between them. Gaku had no business looking at Ayase that closely. “Want to come?” Gaku continued, slanting an amused look in Shirogane’s direction, like he knew exactly what he was thinking.

And once again Shirogane thought he was saved. Because Ayase clearly wouldn’t want to go to some stupid karaoke party and…

“Sure, why not,” Ayase said idly. “I don’t have anything else to be doing right now, anyway.”

“Good,” Gaku all but purred. “You can convince Shirogane, then, seeing as he’s not listening to any of us.”

Traitors, he thought helplessly. He was surrounded by traitors.

“Are you sure this was a good idea?” Soutarou hissed, as they hovered outside the closed door, trying to sneak a look inside. “He really doesn’t like this kind of thing.”

Kai shoved him in the shoulder. “Of course it was a good idea,” he shot back. “We wouldn’t even have got Shirogane here without his boyfriend helping out.”

“They’re not exactly going out,” Kakeru protested, only for Kai to give him a disdainful look. “Well, they’re not.”

“Details, details,” Kai said dismissively. “They might as well be.”

“Maybe,” Gaku agreed. “Just don’t let either of them hear you say that if you want to live.”

Kai muttered something under his breath and Soutarou grinned, slinging an arm around the younger man’s shoulder. “Come on,” he said. “We still have a party of our own, right?”

“Yessss,” Kai hissed, ducking out from under his arm. “Race you to the room!”
