Picspam. Women in toku

Well, specifically the three Chouseishin series: Gransazer, Justiriser and Sazer X. Because they are awesome and more people need to know about them. Also, some of the caps are massive, sorry, I don't know how to resize them. :(

I may picspam for Gransazer in general at another point, just for now though it's the women. ^.^

Shidou Mika. Flame Tribe. Mika was the first of the Gransazers to awaken, at least two and a half years before the series starts. She's smart and level-headed (which someone has to be in that Tribe) but don't be fooled by that because Mika? Can take you down. <3 She takes the occasional bit of flack for not being feminine but she doesn't care. <3

Amemiya Ryoko. Wind Tribe. Cool and classy, Ryoko is also one of the sharpest fighters of the Gransazers, I'd even say she's the best in the Wind Tribe: Akira has more raw power but Ryoko has more skill, I think. She doesn't suffer fools, but she'll make exceptions for her friends and while she's always a fairly reserved character, you can see her warming up to the people who become her friends over time. I really love that, while she warms up throughout the series it's not a case of 'defrosting the ice queen' because that's not who Ryoko is at all.

Saotome Ran. Earth Tribe. Ran is essentially the oracle character. She's the only one who can really access the information on the crystal about the ancient war that wiped out humanity millions of years before, which leaves her feeling as if she's set apart from the rest. In spite of that, Ran is a very cheerful character, very upbeat and carefree and I love the range of personalities we get for these women.

Uozumi Ai. Water Tribe. Ai is a fairly quiet character, but she's very principled and not afraid to stand by those principles, even when it means coming into conflict with the people she loves. She's also shown that when she's pushed hard enough she's not afraid to fight back, even if in general she's a strong believer in there being other ways to win than fighting.

I'm only about 17 episodes into Justiriser, so there's stuff I know I'm missing. These are my impressions so far.

Sanada Yuka, aka Riser Kageri, the second Justiriser to appear. There's still a lot of the season to go so a lot can easily change for Yuka, but so far she's one of my favourite characters of the show. She frequently has to moderate between the two guys on the team and refuses to let them dictate to her or manipulate her, even when it's with the best of intentions (they try to leave her out of a fight because she has an important match and they don't want her to miss it). She's also not afraid to point out that the Justirisers aren't a combi of the two guys, they are trio, damn it and she's important too. <3

Tendou Mio. The mentor of the team, in a way. She's the one with all the information about the Justirisers, except the information is kind of locked away inside her head and often needs to be triggered by something. Her family have been guardians of the secret of the Justirisers for 450 years, which is why Mio has the knowledge that she does. Apparently she's often portrayed as a damsel in distress, according to the wiki anyway, but I haven't seen much of that as yet. She's forbidden to use violence, although whether that's true for the Tendou family in particular or just for her isn't clear yet. Possibly a cultural difference I'm missing here, I don't know.

Motomiya Reika. Hands down my favourite character so far. <3 At first I thought she was going to be around for a couple of episodes and useless, but I was definitely wrong. :D She has the image of being very proper but she's awesomely snarky and tactless. She's also Mio's bodyguard - this is probably a rank thing (Mio's family seems to be a fairly important one temporally as well as being related to the Justirisers) - as well as Mio being forbidden to use violence. Reika is an expert in hand to hand and I love that she can be that without being a Justiriser as well.

Remy Freede. Remy is awesome. It's been a while since I saw Sazer X so I've forgotten a lot of the storyline, but I do remember Remy being amazing. She wasn't a Sazer warrior, but she was a core member of the team even without being that, she could take care of herself and she got plotlines that didn't have anything to do with any of the other characters and their growth. She got to be everything: kickass, in pain, funny, serious; a character in and of herself without being solely defined by the romantic subplot that was also ongoing. I love that. <3
