Sae tilted her face to the sky as the snowflakes fell, sticking to her eyelashes and melting on her cheeks. She held her hands out to catch them, oblivious to the cold accompanying them. The snow didn't seem quite as magical down in the city, but here, up on Sky Island, it reminded her of the snowfalls from when she was a child, covering the cityscape with a crisp layer of snow. She could almost forget that the reason she was up here in the first place was to train: right now it was so much easier to pretend the outside world didn't hate and fear her for what she was; that laws were being passed every day to limit the movements of her and the people like her; that the Orgs weren't trying to take away what little freedom humanity still had.
"It's so beautiful up here," she sighed happily, wishing she could stay up here for a while without having to worry about anything.
There was a quiet snort from just behind her and to her left and she turned to find Blue leaning against a tree and grinning at her. "I try." He was the reason for the snow of course; somehow Sky Island existed in a state of perpetual summer, although how that was maintained Sae couldn't begin to guess, so to get conditions resembling those down below they needed a little push. "You ready or do you want to play in the snow a bit more?"
"I'm ready," she replied, sticking her tongue out at him. "Are you?"
"I'm not the one in raptures over a bit of snow," he shot. "You're worse than my little brother." He shut up abruptly and Sae stared at him for a moment in confusion. This was the first she'd heard about him having a brother, or any kind of family really. It just wasn't something they talked about, not her and Blue, nor Yellow and Black, the latest addition to their team. She decided not to push it, however; it was clearly a topic Blue didn't want - or wasn't ready - to talk about.
She moved into a defensive stance as the snow started falling a bit harder: one on one she knew she had the upper hand with Blue: he didn't have her background in the martial arts and he'd only started learning when Yellow and Tetomu had recruited them. The weather, however, was his advantage and the reduced visibility was more of a hindrance for her than it was for him. Still, trying to meld their abilities in battle, both the advantages and disadvantages, was why they were up here in the first place and it had been her idea anyway, so she couldn't really complain. She just hoped Tetomu would have some tea ready for when they went back to Gao's Rock.
An overhead branch gave way under the weight of the snow, falling directly on her head and she yelped, shaking it off reflexively, only for Blue to get a solid kick to her stomach, sending her staggering back.
"Phase through it!" he reminded her impatiently. "That's why we're up here, isn't it?"
Easy for him to say, she thought in faint annoyance. He wasn't the one with snow down his back, was he? But he was right: this, among other things, was why they'd left Yellow and Black to Tetomu's devices. They'd gotten lucky today, their powers meshing as if they'd been doing it for years, but they couldn't count on being that lucky again: it was something they'd have to work on.

A couple of hours later they were both tired and soaked from both sweat and snow and Sae was more than ready to call it a day. They'd made some progress, maybe not as much as they'd have liked but it was definitely a start and now Sae was ready for that tea.
So of course that was when the snowball hit her squarely in the face.
She looked up to find Blue grinning at her again as he scrunched up another snowball. "Don't even think about it," she warned and he gave her an innocent look, one that suggested he would never throw a snowball at her, what could ever make her think that. Then he threw the second one at her before she could register anything beyond 'flying projectile' and she dodged, throwing herself to the side and coming up into a crouch.
He was so dead, she decided, gathering up some snow of her own and packing it into a ball. So very, very dead. She was going to decimate him with snow. She was going to shove it down his back and rub his face in it and--
And he'd disappeared. Blast.

They were still laughing when they finally made it back to Gao's Rock, holding each other up so they didn't collapse in a heap.
"Training went well, I see," Yellow said dryly, tossing a couple of towels at them.
"Fine," Blue replied airily as he let go long enough to stagger over to the Spring and sit down. "White's got wicked aim."
Sae grinned, wrapping the towel around her shoulders as Black held out a cup of something blessedly hot. "Thank you," she smiled, taking the cup off him. "And you were pretty good as well," she added to Blue, a little amused to see his cheeks go pink.
"Of course I was," he retorted a moment later, recovering himself. "I'm always good."
Yellow snorted derisively and ruffled Blue's hair. "Dream on, kid."
"I'm not a kid!"
"Keep telling yourself that, too."
