Show and Episode title: Doctor Who 1x09 The Empty Child (or the episode that made me start loving Doctor Who)
Review:
I think all in all this episode was so good because it combined a really touching storyline (while not being overly sappy), a creepy child and a tonne of hilarious lines. Captain Jack Harkness also makes his first appearance. Such a wonderfully fun character. So charming and charismatic, managing not to bee sleazy despite hitting of absolutely everything. My favourite moments would have to be the Doctor’s complete bafflement when the phone in the TARDIS starts ringing and the fact that he just asks the phone why it’s ringing, also Jack and Rose’s drinks on top of the ship and the reveal that he’s actually trying to con them. I find it amusing because Rose gets so swoony (as would anyone) but you know she’d loves the Doctor most.
Show and Episode title: Dollhouse 2x01 Vows
Review:
So I’ve never been a fan of the Character of Echo and while this episode is about her (it always is) there are lots of other things that redeem this episode. Firstly a shout out to Dewitt’s time as Mrs Lonelyhearts as she touched Victors healing face for just too long. Secondly, the hazing of Topher by Saunders, definitely my favourite part of the episode as they are my favourite two characters. You just learn so much about how the two of them.
“Is this your idea of a joke?”
“You designed me Mr Brink, I guess it must be your idea of a joke.”
Topher seems conflicted about creating her. He seems to feel terrible but also feel immensely proud of creating a whole person. Claire just seems to be cracking up, not so much that she was created but that she was created by someone she hates. It doesn’t seem to make sense to her.
Also Sierra being racist towards Ivy because she’s ‘oriental’ was amusing. I just ask; has she looked in the mirror?
Oh, and on the Echo storyline. I found this one bearable because of the lovely Jamie Bamber. Also I found this episode made Paul a more interesting character to me. That he was willing to send Echo on an engagement for his own purposes seems to deviate from his original plan. It certainly made him more interesting than someone who was simply mooning over Echo.
