Yes, I am completely addicted to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It started out as a "get healthy" thing, going 3 days per week, 1 gi, and just having fun. Now I'm up to 5 days per week and wish I had weekends off so I could go 7 days a week.
Just the month prior I was a couch potato. My DM has told me I am no longer able to go up in levels on my Prestige Class: TV Fangirl. Instead, I'm now putting levels in Prestige Class: Ass Kicker.
I've been doing it for 1 month now. I started on May 31, 2010. In that month I've already started losing size: .5" on my chest, waist, arms, .25" on my calves, and 1.5" on my hips. Holy crap! I find I'm not craving as many crappy foods, and when I do feel like having something sweet I indulge, but not over-indulge. Actually, there aren't many things I feel like indulging in...a popsicle now and again, and sometimes a bit of fried chicken. YUM! But for the most part I'm just eating Korean food and working out and drinking BOATLOADS of water.
I'm going to be in my first tournament on July 18. Yes, I love it so much that I want to compete.
The guys in my class are awesome amazing. I've found people I love love love sparring with (we call it rolling :) They're super nice, they're comfortable, they're approachable, and it's FUN. Plus, it doesn't hurt that there are some super hot k-boys there! Yes, I've fallen for them. It's bizarre--I don't think I've ever been around so many lean, muscular bodies. I've only ever been around soft, computer bodies. :) One guy I developed a deep crush on because of how well he plays "victim." Basically, when our teacher demonstrates a move, he demonstrates it on this guy and his face while he's playing victim--big warm snuggly feelings inside me. :)
I have some nicknames for some people at the gym:
Lil' Girl: uni student, 18, kicks my butt every time.
Spider Woman: this gal is ALL ARMS AND LEGS. Crap!
Iron Woman: under her skin is an adamantium core. STRONG!
Juggler: he seriously juggles me when we roll!
Monkey: this guy climbs the walls when we're running around. He's hilarious.
Anyway, so loving life here in Korea. Will buy a camera within the week. LOVING BJJ!
FYI, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is NOT Capoeira. Not in the slightest. It's basically like wrestling, but we wear a gi.
