Remus Lupin

Wow. I'm glad you asked about this character. Mainly because I rarely think/talk about him, so it will give me an opportunity to do just that. =)

1. I really admire Remus. I think he is JKR's HIV allegory in the series and wears it well. Dignified, kind, intelligent, understanding. I love the way Thewlis portrayed the character. That being said, I wish he had fought harder for acceptance and his rights, but I understand his reasons for not doing so. I think he often comes across as the most human and humane person in the room, and I do not think that is a coincidence. Those we fear and hate are often more human that we could ever dream to be.

2. I ship Sirius, Snape and Hermione with Remus. Yes, you read those last two right. Remember that Remus was the only Maurader who understood that what they did to Snape was wrong. He still went along with it because of peer pressure, but he did own up to it and feel remorse. I also sensed that Snape understood this and respected him. He would never admit it, but he did faithfully make the wolfs-bane for him, a former enemy. They are also both intellectuals, so they can bond on that. As far as Hermione goes, I think they are highly compatible. Aside from the age thing, which neither would care about, they are both highly intelligent, civilized, tolerant and extremely loyal. I also ship the three of them together. lol

3. Remus/Harry. I love mentor!Remus so much! Also, Remus and Sirius and maybe Minerva and Remus.

4. I really, really don't care for the Remus/Tonks pairing. To this day I still think it came out of NO WHERE. I get that we are limited by Harry's perspective and don't see all the stuff behind the scenes that he doesn't see, but still. This seem so incompatible and it's not like they were super happy together (extenuating circumstances, I know) and I think Tonks changed for the not-so-good with him.

5. Totally wish he and Sirius had been canon and that he and Tonks never would have hooked up.

I'm with you on the Remus/Tonks thing. It NEVER made sense to me. It felt forced, and later on in the story it STILL felt forced, but I could see how Rowling maybe had to make the match happen to set some things up, plot-wise.

Sirius/Remus came as close to canon as it could get, in my opinion. ;P

He didn't seem to even pay any attention to Tonks until after Sirius was taken from him, and even then, he was still always depressed and withdrawn.

Good analysis, especially the points regarding Snape/Remus.
