I watched bits and pieces from TLBD...I'm not sure I liked the actors, but I ADORED the concept of it.

Exactly. The thing about that movie, and this is true of The Avengers as well, is that the things that work work, so well that you ignore the things that maybe didn't. The Pepper and Tony stuff was all amazing to the point where I don't even know what I thought about the actual plot/story of the film outside of them :P

I've said it before, but character development will always trump narrative development for me. Yes, I want the narrative to move along...but I can accept a weak plot if the character work is strong. If a movie (or show) is sloppy/lazy when it comes to writing its characters, I have a really hard time overcoming that. IM3 is the rare franchise film that knew where to take its characters.

I loved the first nu!Trek movie. I mean, the Uhura thing still bugged me...but everything else was great. I don't know what happened with this new movie. I mean, they kept Uhura's role basically the same, so I guess it probably bugged me more this time around because they had a chance to fix it and didn't?

RIGHT?? I want that BW movie so damn much. I know she's going to be playing a major role in CA2, but I want HER origin story.

Hannibal is....disturbing. I think it's an amazingly made show (directing, writing, acting), but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. Then again, murder shows in general aren't mine and I'm watching....which probably comes back to the characters. If the leads weren't as interesting as they are, I probably wouldn't be watching.

I've been passing it on tumblr for ages- I finally gave up and got hooked, lol. It's definitely a different format, and seems to be sparking off others like it- that's going to be an interesting development to watch.

That's it in a nutshell. Now given that they're superhero movies, I always go into it with a certain amount of suspension of disbelief, but with the Iron Man and Avengers series, so far the quality of character writing has been enough to keep me happily hooked. There were some definite plot holes, though the one thing that caused an uproar that I actually thought was well done was the Mandarin storyline. I liked the twist- we were all busy thinking about this token Eastern or Middle Eastern terrorist when all along it was smoke and mirrors and a very real, very homegrown threat. Yeah, the comic!verse fans were in a tizzy but I think it was an interesting commentary on the media and what we expect.

And of course all the Pepper and Tony stuff was brilliant. They're not one of those unrealistic sappy couples that's all hugs and kisses and rainbows every 3.2 seconds- they argue and drive each other a little nuts but you can always see how much they love each other and how solid they actually are together. I love that you can track how they grew into that all the way from the first movie, and that it actually makes sense when you do.

I never bothered seeing 2009 Trek, mostly because of what I saw about how they treated the ladies. And then the lack of diversity and the way they're ret-conning everything? Meh.

*sigh* Y'know that post on tumblr about forgetting that Marvel's target audience isn't young women? Grr. I need my BW movie now please.

Possibly that's why I quit watching Criminal Minds- there's only so much in terms of dark themes I can handle on a regular basis. Especially since so many of the stories on CM were based on actual crimes.
