The dentist has informed me I need a crown put on one of my teeth (the one that had a root canal). I had a clinical crown lengthening surgery in preparation for it a long time ago but the crown was never done. The cost of this one crown is $1200 ( Read more... )

That's interesting. Pardon my ignorance with regard to Canadian health care, but why wouldn't the crown be covered? It sounds like it would be necessary for the health of the tooth. And yes, that seems a bit high for a crown. I think the root canal was 1000 here in my city, but I only had to pay $100 of that.

But hey, a dental vacation to Spain or Argentina sounds like a spoonful of sugar to make the dental medicine go down. ;)

Hope the tooth at least in no pain whilst you decide which option to take - hopefully the eaiser would be for the insuance to cover it - however, a trip to an over seas dentist might be interesting as well.

Sad commentary on the dental system in Canada when it is cheaper to go overseas (just stay away from British dentist!).

Not surprising if it is not covered here in Canada - unless you are on welfare or an immigrant waiting for status you will pay through the nose for this kind of dental procedure (some dental plans may cover 20-33% of a crown). Is it cheaper in the USA? you are going to Chicago soon?
