Evolution of Media

Feb 21, 2008 22:28

We discussed in class through several readings, Langer, Ong and Abbot, how media has evolved and the impact of such evolution- audio tapes came about and there was an intriguing increase of printed media books (perhaps I am not the only one who reads and listens at the same time out of necessity and an inability to solely listen). We attempt to combine forms of orality with present day print, or translate print into audio companions. I like to stress the fact that for an audio book to occur, the printed form is needed, the 'book' and even if it only exists as an e-book, there must be a visual language of symbols first before the audio 'book' comes. Doing things a bit backwards from the olden way way back days, huh?

I found a very interesting clip I'd like to share right now (after Jamie's awesome clips I feel the need to play show and tell now). The animated clip shows how perhaps new media will and does takes on a life of its own so to speak. Enjoy!
