Look. If this topic makes you so uncomfortable, you don't have to be involved in the conversation. I'm sure other strangers will be much more willing to help me and my husband won't care at all as long as the end result turns out nicely enough for him.

What, are you going to tell him? [Her smile sharpens in amusement at the idea.] He's my husband. We're equals. He doesn't have to approve of what I say anymore than I have to approve of him smoking his way to lung cancer.
I realize it is difficult to conceive that he has a personal life outside of work considering how devoted he is to his job, but he does and he is just as devoted to me. And that isn't anything to be ashamed of.
[And with a very sweet burst of honesty.] I'm very proud of him. And your opinion of him or me [not that she even remembers this guy's name] shouldn't change just because I want to keep him happy. He deserves that much for all he does.
