Hmmm well the only thing that SST1 and 2 have in common is the alien bugs, everything else about it is completely different. It's a much darker movie, both for story and set lighting and if it wasn't for the name you wouldn't think the two films were related. SST2 is much more of b-movie horror than the original, think low budget, and it is all set inside an old industrial tower/stockade.
That said I actually prefer SST2 to the original but maybe that's because I like darker sci-fi like Alien etc. I'd say it's possibly worth it for Richard but you'd have to fast forward quite a few gory bits. It was on tv in the UK a few months ago so watch out for it on tv, but if you are buying I wouldn't spend much money on it, bargain bin prices :)
Here's a few caps to illustrate. There is only 1 brief scene in the entire film where RB takes his shirt off and it's in low level lighting, grrrrr!
I'd heard it had some very yucky bits in (I could just about cope with Alien but only just). RB looks darn good here, although wasting his chest when they had plenty of female nudity seems most unfair ;-)
